Creaking/groaning brake pedal

What's causing it? I imagine a hinge or something under the dash needs a shot of WD40 but I wanted to see if anyone has had it happen/what they did.

Long story short, the pedal creaks/groans like a rusty door hinge when you push it down more than 1/2 inch. Can't say I feel too confident if I need to panic stop lol

I think there is a plastic bushing in there. I would have to look to be sure.

Might be the master cylinder too.

Thanks for the replies... god I hope it's not the MC I don't have money for that right now... One other thing that turned up was the return spring on the pedal sometimes gets creaky. When I have time I'll get under the dash and look. The car still has full stopping power so it's more of an annoyance than a safety issue at this point.
