I ran into another trouble doing my head swap. This black metal piece that is attached to my cylinder head that seems to be a radiator hose needs to come off but for the life of me I can't get it off. I tried pb blasting and going at it with a rubber mallet and getting a wrench to it but I stopped before I broke anything. Does anyone know how to get rid of that black piece or know the name of it so I can research it online?

guessing thats a 4v head? those are just held in with rubber O-rings and a few mounting bolts.

I'd just go at it with a mallet. They are on all sorts of 4v fords, so if you fugg it up, it's easy to replace. Just be careful on the head.

what exactly is your goal? Why is this head coming off the car? Are you upgrading to the up-dated head design? Are you getting machine work done? If so, I'd suggest leaving it on and have the shop take it off. They can heat up, cool it down, lube it up, de-lube it, hit it, squeeze it, pop it, jerk it.... anyways.....

Yeah a 4v. The head you see in the picture is fubar. I got a used cylinder head an I'm replacing all the parts to the newer cylinder head. The new cylinder head didn't come with that black hose so I'm trying to take it off so I can use it.

gotcha. while the head (the new one) is out, I'd call a local head shop for a price quote on a valve test, dis-assembly, cleaning, reassembly for it. All that is usually fairly cheep (my guy charges $75.00 for 4v heads and like, $20.00 for 2v pushrod heads. lol!) and he says he gets crap out of even brand new heads from ford racing....

ANYWAYS. that thing is only held in there with a rubber o-ring. it will (obviously) need replaced. dont use too much force as you might break it, but dont be scared of the thing either... lol. it'll come out one way or another.

here's a picture of them critters (one on the other head too) out of the car...

his would be a perfect time to do a head cooling mod on your car, since the head(s?) are out....

Thanks for the info. Just curious if you ever opened this up. My new cylinder head doesn't seem to have a open passage into the cylinder head on where this black piece is supposed to go. So does the coolant just cool the surface of the head? Or is it supposed to go through the head. I'm lost.
