He was an agressive driver as known by the "intimidator" name they gave him. I hate guys who bump and tap to win races, gordon, johnson, busch(both of them). I cheer for edwards as he is a classy driver with a lot of talent, I am aware he gets hot-headed too(brad keslowski comes to mind, but brad DID send him into the fence at talledega) but he is always apologising, unlike the way senior was as he thought it was his way or the highway...

but that's how the sport is set up. if they outlaw bumping, that's a whole different story. but as it currently sits, it's legal. it's not pretty, but it's legal. as it was, he found a way to win within the rules - everyone else can cry about his methods and try to get the rules changed but as the rules were he found a way to win. I cannot say I have ever seen him intentionally try and wreck or hurt another driver - sure, get a guy loose, even spin him out, but never go out of his way to wreck someone or cause bodily harm. he's just another one of the racers out there trying to win.

if you don't like bump drafting and moving a guy when you have to, NASCAR is not for you. you have to race like that in most spec-racing where all the cars are so damn near equal. sometimes you flat out don't have the car to beat the other guy and you need to make something happen either from behind with a little pressure or in front with some creative blocking.

it's one of many reasons why I'm not a giant NASCAR fan anymore.

I'll say this, it takes A LOT more skill to out drive someone when your cars are almost 100% equal then to just tap them or make them loose. Any moron, myself included, could bump be a nascar driver if bumping was the way to race.

bumping someone is easy. bumping someone in a controlled manner, while both 3500lb missiles are doing at minimum 120mph and sometimes 200mph, while turning, while maintaining control of your vehicle and bumping them in a manner that not only doesn't damage the very sensitive and important front fascia and splitter of the car, that allows you to keep your momentum up and doesn't slow you down or drag you into the infield with him, while 40 other guys are sitting on your ass waiting for you to screw up and make a pass, after being in said car for five hours with the effort of a mack truck to turn and 200 degree temperatures, with millions of dollars, corporate/sponsor/fan pressure, your career, and possibly your life on the line...

that is difficult, and something you or I could not do.

everyone makes generalizations that NASCAR is just a left turn. I'm no super-fan, but somewhere deep down I had that mind set to. I got out onto a 1/4 mile paved oval at Mustang Week one year. they drew the cones in to keep speeds down for our street cars, I think I hit maybe 100mph max.

It was some of the most difficult driving I ever have done in my life. No pressure, no wheel to wheel racing, no passing, slow car, slow speeds, dummed down course, no race on the line or money. Just a few laps and I was tired, shaking. Not THE HARDEST, but up there. This from someone who has done a couple years of autocrossing my cars, drag raced for over a decade my own and countless dozens of customer cars everything from 16 seconds to high 9s, done a few HPDEs, skip barber driving school and raced a season of spec miata, have a CDL and done hazmat transport in a 18wheeler.

WOW! You are an ignorant person.... You think that Carl Edwards is a "classy driver!?" How about when he punked his team mate a couple of years ago on live TV? Or this year when he spent two laps trying to wreck Brad (while he was 156 laps down mind you) then succeded and sent Brad on a ride that could have ended his life and injured multiple other people. Carl Edwards is one of the biggest punks on the track, dirty driver and an all around bad person IMHO. Dale Earnhardt was old school, he drove agressive and did whatever it took to win the race, that is what racing is all about. Rubbin's racin' and if you don't believe that then you need to stop watching any racing that involves vehicles in general.

I'm done thread jacking. Sorry Soddy.
