So I’m curious if y’all think this key is too damaged to work because I have good power but no crank. It’s the original key but it has seen better days. I had a new one cut but it wasn’t programmed so I’m wondering if it is preventing the new old one from working. I checked all my connections. Fuses and grounds they are all good and had them double checked by a mechanic too.

Don't loose that white piece in the key
That is programed to the car
Mine was the same way
Push it back in all the way
And try starting the car
Take jb weld to the casing if it dose start

the white piece is the passive transponder that pats reads to allow it to run/stop. You could probably put a dab of epoxy on it and call it a day, or take it out/cut the key off and glue the back/black part to the bottom of the ignition and then use any key with a chip or not.

Get a couple keys made that do not have a transponder. Cut the key part off or pull the transponder out. Mount the transponder in your steering column next to the transmitter. Now, you can use a regular key.

My advice for anyone with PATS:. Have 3 working, programmed keys available. With 2 keys, you can always reprogram a third key, forurth etc. But, with only 1 key, you need to have a locksmith/Ford program the second key.

So if you ever lose a key, you can always duplicate it easily.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!! Get the keys cut by a Locksmith! Don't go with a Ford store. I have three keys now. Two with chips (new) and the old one's a spare tucked under the fender just-in-case. Cost me one hundred-sixty bucks total.

I'd grab a 3rd programmable key and progam it yourself in the event one of the other 2 get lost/no longer function. It's cheap insurance. A hep key can be bought on eBay. Then just get it cut and program it yourself.
