Well, I was on my way home today after work and happened to notice a silver GT at one of the local lots.. At first I didn't think much of it, but after I got home I had an itch to get back out and go take a look at it.

Turns out it's got a super-clean body, I mean it really looks nice. Smooth and the paint really isn't too bad at all. The interior needs some work, the center bezel is broken (the rear clips) and it's missing a vent and a few other little things, not to mention the carpets are pretty dirty.

The only thing that really bother me is that it has 147,xxx Mi. Motor looks stock, in fact the whole car is fairly un-molested. Not sure on the price, because the stealership was closed.

It's a 5-spd, cruise control, rear defrost, mach stereo, etc etc..

So, what do you guys think? If anyone feels like running the vin for me, I'd really appreciate it. :thumb:

Sorry for the crappy pics.

looks well used but at the same time well mantained but its hard to tell a dealership can do major detailing work and if the interior is still that dirty who knows how dirty the car WAS...but on the other hands like I said it looks like its been taken care of well for that mileage.

btw how'd you happen to pop the hood was it unlocked?

not bad, but like previously stated the miles are a little high. you can have a super clean car, and it be stranded on the side of the road because the motor shit out. i would pass on it, unless they are asking quite a low price, maybe 4,ooo or something around there

Update:

Went and test drove it today while I was on my lunch break. She still runs like a dream, sounds good and tight, revs quick with very little hesitation (sounds like it needs a tune-up.) Great acceleration, and the dumps sound pretty good too! The clutch is a bit sloppy, slips a little, but for the most part isn't too bad. It shifts pretty well, trans feels good. Rear eund is strong, no noise. Steering is smooth, and the suspension feels pretty good too, a little worn, but still firm.

I ran her pretty hard, just to iron out any kinks that might be hidden at low speed or anything like that. All-In-All it's a pretty darn nice car for having 147,xxx Mi!

Carfax turns out to be clean, awesome! But, 3 owners :nonono: .

Can you guys think of anything that I should look or listen out for? It didn't have the notorious Ford "tick" and not much blow-by at all.

Dude, I'd say go for it. It looks like that could be a really nice project. If the price is right, I'd go for it. My car has 140K and it doesn't smoke, doesn't squeak, and is still in pretty nice condition. Runs strong too. There's nothing too bad about high miles if they were easy miles.

almost 170k on mine now, and im still giving it hell :)

I did manage to break a motor mount though this week LOL.

With that kinda milage, here are some odd things you could experience:
Heater core ( $50 but lots of time to replace)
tranny/motor mounts old ($100 for motor $30 for tranny)

What kinda price is it going for, $4-5k or so?

Not bad, just needs some TLC. My car was in similar shape when I got it a few months ago. Mine was a little cleaner on the inside, but probably a little worse on the outside. I paid $5,000 for mine but it only has 42K original miles on it. I'd say shoot for the $3K to $4K range on price with the higher miles.

You can see a little before and after of my car at www.95gt.blogspot.com if you want. I had to work on the paint a lot, but it came back. I still need to go back and touch up a few places. Interiors usually come back pretty easily. Steam clean the carpets, and then just clean and Armor-All the heck out of everything else. The whole thing would look great with a good weekend's worth of detailing.

Check that the door's are not sagging, TOB bearing not squeeking. The intake needs either aluminum corssover already, or count on replacing it, they crack. Other than that, not much wrong with these car's, underpowered a bit, but easily rectified. BTW 4.6's are known to run strong for well over 200k when maintaned properly.

Go for it man! If the oils clean and it runs strong and is firm.. then I bet she's just fine.
