Same here. On mine, (in this photo of Handz' car) the silver "cylindrical" part that the filter is attached to does not exist. It threads onto a cast iron piece that is bolted right to the block. Mine is a Romeo block.

not that the stock oil cooler is the perfection of efficiency but in the cold months an oil cooler does more harm than good by keeping the oil thinker longer. That being said, I still wish I had one for the track and driving home to Cali every summer. Maybe I wouldn't change my oil every 1500 miles, lol.

If you're bored here's a link to my file share for an article that has Waaaaay more information than the average human should know about oil. It's a very long but EASY read. The Author is my hero, lol... I promise, you'll be happy you read it. I think it's in an Open Office format.

You know..and believe me I'm sure this will go against popular belief... But I was always taught that the "Oil cooler" on these fords like in the super duties and cop cars were actually meant to get the oil to operating temp sooner..then afterwards maintain a certain temp..thus a sort of preheater first and then a oil cooler second...I mean look at how it uses coolant rather than a Heat sink like a air to air oil cooler..?

Makes sense. Similar to an auto trans cooler. You can pretty much always count on coolant flow, but in traffic, you can't always count on air flow.

But the coolant is just as cold as the car when it first starts up which it the only time the warm oil is really needed before driving. My Ford TM doesn't say anything about the purpose of the oil cooler being to warm the oil.

I wonder if its a regional thing? Theres like 6 different oil filter housing for the modulars all with different lengths for different reasons. Maybe cars that were being built for down south and west coast had them and northern cars don't? Now i'm gonna have to drive up on the ramps and see wtf is going on :)

I'm pretty certain my car does not have an Oil Cooler nor should any '94 - '98 2v. I think it's only the 4v that came with it.

Dalamar... did it come stock?

It could have been a dealer modified part. It very common for dealerships to modify a car after they get it to sell it and mark up the price point. (ie dealerships in the Mohave tend to modify cars and trucks with oil coolers and undercoating.)

But as far as I've seen, it wasn't an option on the order list. (At least I don't remember ever seeing it there) I'll see if I can find the PDF's of order options.

BTW all 96-98 mustangs have Romeo engines. The only reason mustangs got the Windsor from 99 to mid 01 is because there was a fire at the Romeo plant.

The oil cooler is sandwiched between the block and oil filter. It has coolant lines runing to and from it. Not sure about other 2v cars, but in 98 if you got the GT sport group option you got an oil cooler...

Retuning took the GT's V-8 to 225 horsepower, and a GT Sport Group arrived offering five-spoke 17-inch wheels, engine-oil cooler, and hood and front-fender stripes for $595.

I got certain options on my '98 but not the oil cooler. No oil cooler here. I have my original window stickers.

Not all GTs had the sport group option..

This is what a stock Sport Group optioned GT looks like.. Minus the stripes going down the sides.
