What? If you don't have tools, a driveway, or time, and you have the money, why wouldn't I just let someone else do it? The older I get the more valuable my time is, I'll be out of the dealership by 8 AM tomorrow without so much as lifting a finger.

^I don't see anything wrong with that anyway.

Can anyone tell me if it is even worth it to change gear fluid? I'm positive my car at 105k has never had it changed. Is there a real point?

^ i have the same question, im sure my dad didnt change the diff oil when he drove it, i have it 6 years and also havent changed, should I? Also another question regarding oil, might be stupid but i really dont know, what kind of oil does the manual transmission, how often do you change it and from where do you drain the old and fill the new oil?

Thats not what I was replying to, it was the fact me or prob most of us thought you were talking about your mustang this whole time. Not that the process is any different but still.

The oil change intervals for the tranny, rearend, oil should all be in the service book and if not just call a local Ford dealer and ask. Your deff not hurting anything by changing the oil in the tranny or rear end so go ahead and do it.

A manual transmission takes any kind of oil but it has to have the synchromesh additive in it. There is a drain plug in the tranny you use that to drain it and there is a fill plug as well.

I thought only the rear end needed the friction modifier additive? If I remember correctly, at least for T5's, you use Dextron V(maybe higher?) Automatic Transmission fluid. I personally used Royal Purple SynchroMax/Mesh or whatever it's called though.

I'd suggest getting a syringe and some tubing for putting the fluid in the transmission. The fill hole is kind of high up with little room, and you won't be able to fit bottles or anything up there. A clear tube fit over the end of a big syringe will be the easiest way to put the fluid in unless you already have your shifter off.

T5 and T45 both take ATF, no friction modifier. Think he may have typed that wrong and was still talking about Ford rear diff's

Very easy to change, there are drain and fill plug on the tranny, I have always filled through the top though, just pull off the shifter and fill it up

Definitely easy enough to do by yourself. Either find a way to pump it to the fill plug on the high side of the transmission until it starts to drip out, or leave open the fill plug and fill it through the shifter opening until it drips out of the fill hole. All of this after draining it of course..

I'd put in Royal Purple SyncroMax or SyncroMesh, I forgot which one is for the tranny, but it should say on the bottle. It's meant for manual transmissions that require ATF.

your rearend needs friction modifer added or included in the rear end gear oil. You need syncromesh for the transmission. I dont know what was confusing I never said the rear end didn't need friction modifer I was talking about the tranny not the rear end.

Is there actually an additive for tranny's called synchromesh? I know royal purple makes some stuff called that.. but I thought otherwise it was just ATF. That's where I got confused.

ive changed the diffy fluid on my lowered mustang without jack/jackstands (i prefer to do it this way to ensure accurate fluid level). it requires a ratchet, one extension, one socket, some hosing, some oil-spill-clean, and the fluid...

remove diffy cover, drain fluid, clean RTV.
replace RTV, replace diffy cover.
remove fill-plug on front of diffy, insert hose, fill with fluid.
replace plug.

i suggest using the hose to fill in order to stand outside of the car while you squeeze the fluid bottle...
