I noticed today that the differential is leaking fluid. Its not too much but it'll leave a small quarter size puddle. It drives fine , i dont hear any noises or grinding back there. I just dont want to mess something up.

just take off the cover, scrape off the old RTV, and reinstall using new RTV. its an easy fix.

It also could be a Pinion seal. is it coming from the back of the diff or the front?

oops, forgot to ask about that :wall:. if its from the diff cover, then its not big deal and you an do as i mentioned earlier. if its from the pinion seal...then its a little more labor.

oh, by the way, what gear oil do you guys recommend? I got 4.10's and high miles.

i say either Amsoil, Mobil 1, Royal Purple, or Motorcraft. if you use anything thats not a full synthetic, then you have to add 4 oz. of the friction modifier. as for the weight, i cant remember what its supposed to be, ill see if i can find out.

I use Royal Purple, or Mobile 1, in 80/110 wt. I know that I tweaked my cover before by jacking the car up by the pig, so make sure the cover is flat while you have it off.

^ That's what to do.Their is a possiblity it could be the pinion seal though.
I always used Mobil 1 75w140 gear oil and it always worked well.

if you run synthetic gear lube you don't need the modifier. Its just an additive to regular gear lube to help lube the clutch packs. Kendall makes an additive that is just as good as Fords if you go that route.
