In the next couple weeks I am going to be ordering my MPH custom grind non pi s/c cams and springs. I called up my tuner to get a quote...and WOW!! I didn't know it would be this expensive. He quoted me $1800 for installing the cams, springs, degreeing the cams, and a retune. For guys that have already gotten cams done by a shop, how much did you pay? This shop is the shop i have been going to for a while now though and they know their stuff. Definately a top notch mustang shop. Feedback please!

Well your tune will be 300-400, but that leaves 1500 in labor for cams, and yes that is nearly twice as high as the normal quotes people post.

I think his car is already tuned, so he should already have a handheld or a chip. I know around here, they charge 150 an hour for tuning if you already have the handheld or a chip. Custom cams should be no more than 700 bucks, springs would be 250 so you are looking at 700 bucks for an install? Too rich for my blood ya know?

that price was just for install, not the cam prices. They are extra...

I say just do it your self and then take it to get tuned. That is retartedly high.

Holy hell! I didn't read close enough if that does not include the cams. They are ripping you off dude. I don't care how much they know, it does not take someone with 30 years experience to install springs and cams and degree them properly.

The way I read it it was only labor, which is why, even being generous with prices, it's still twice as high as it should be.

BTW, they OTC tools cost about 200 buck's, you need a compressor, and a degree kit is 80 dollars from Summit, just FYI.

you are right it is a pretty easy thing to do (on a mod motor) if you have experience with a car.

Yes. The heads do not have to come off to do this.

Seems a bit high.

Degreeing the cams takes some time.
I had mine doen and it was only .5 degrees off on one side, and 1.5 off on the other.
that's nothing.

Good luck in your search / upgrede!!

If you have an air supply the ehad's do not need to come off, you can use air pressure to hold the valves up while you change the spring's.

thanks for the replies guys. I'm not sure what im going to do yet, first i gotta get the cams here. Then i might give them a call again and get some other prices from other shops just to compare. If other shops are that much cheaper ill see why hes quoting me so much. And yes, this cost only includes the cost for labor of cams, springs, degreeing, and tune and yes i already have a handheld. the cams + springs are another $800.

Degreeing the cams on a modular require specail tools. thats where i see the cost.

It requires a dial indicator and a degree wheel, same as every other motor. It costs 80 dollars at Summit. I need to open my own shop so I can get in on some of this...

Wow! Mine cost $150 for installation. I work at a Ford dealership and got a service tech to do the job at his house. My dealership wanted $500 to do it at the shop. You might want to try something like that. Doesn't hurt to ask. He used a special tool to hold the chain in place while he swapped the cams/springs.

Well we are'nt the worlds cheapest country, but that sounds like a lot of money to me, and i work on cars all day long.
I'm not up on modular motors, but it seems on the high side.
