Door switches light up.

I had a 2000 Explorer limited and it had the door switches light up at night. I miss this very much in my cobra and want it back in my life. Could i pull the switches out of an Explorer Sport since they're 2 doors? What else would i need to get out of the explorer, is the lighting element contained in the switches themselves? Also what all years and trim models of explorers had these light up switches? I think this would be a very subtle, easy, and useful mod that i don't understand why more people don't do. I'll take lots of photos and do a write up if someone with a little more knowledge could chime in on those questions, would help out to know when i arrive at the junkyard. The lighting should work off just the switch power but as already mentioned the harness plug is what will determine if this will or wont be an easy swap

To be honest I like the lighted stuff in our explorer as well but not enough to make me want to spend time/money puttign them in my car

Interesting concept. I would do this mod as some of my switches have the print worn from use. Since some part stores stock these replacements, a quick parts bin search and a willing employee or store mgr. would be all it would take.

Sometimes I am such a dumbass, it suddenly occured to me that I have a switch panel from my old 1996 Explorer XLT in my garage

Won't work man, completely different setup where the lock and window are seperate plugs, not combined like ours

what does the harness that the switches clip into look like, could the door harness and a pigtail not be cut out of a doner vehicle? then cut the mustang clip and wire the stock mustang harness to the explorer clip and pigtail? i know some of you think this is a lot of work for not much difference but it's one of those little things that irks me.

Couldn't tell you, I dont own the 96 explorer anymore, traded it in on a 2005 a long time ago. This was just a part left over in my garage cabinet that I had forgotten about.

My opinion though is that cutting/splicing a harness just for a lighter window switch seems like a huge waste of time.

If you wanted this one to experiment with just let me know, I'll give it to you for just paying shipping.

there is no wire in the door to tell the switch when to light up, you would have to splice into that in the kick, run it through the boot and then connect it, on per door. Not a big deal if you have done it before and know how and 3 hrs of cursing if you do not.... I know this because I am considering adding some warning lights on the very end when I redo my doors to fit my 9s in them and already have it planed out.
