a friend of mine is talking about taking me and my brothers 94's down for at least dyno runs to see what we make as a xmas present. he also tossed around the idea of getting them tuned. what results do bolt on cars get from tunes?

Heck if he is paying for it have at it. You won't see that much difference with just bolt on's. I would say anywhere from 170-190 rwhp if your lucky you will break 200 rwhp

I dynoed my car pretty much stock when I bought it only mod was flowmaster catback and it dynoed 201rwhp.

From what Ive seen what they dyno stock is as follows

stock 5.0 GT'S:
automatic= 160-180rwhp
5-speed= 170-200

stock 5.0 cobras:
180-220rwhp

my bone stock 94 gt had a baseline run of 185 hp, and 260 tq with the factory air silencer installed. With the small list of mods in your sig you wil not gain anything from having a tune done. Also remember that when you put them on the dyno, some go and some blow..... I personally have heard the dreaded knock of a lower assembly after I heard my motor make a run. Honestly if you are not going to get a tune and do not have the $$$ to replace the motor I would just have him buy ya some go-fast parts rather then risk the motor. He will fell 2x as bad as you if it does go on the dyno.

interesting point. how much more strain would be on it when its on a dyno rather than a full run on the road?

If your car blows up with bolt ons on a dyno, you shouldnt be modding that engine to begin with lol. I wouldn't waste the money, the mods on your car are soooo minimal you MIGHT see a 5rwhp difference from bone stock, if that. Also the type of dyno will also vary on the HP number you get. Example, my car, with basically the exact same mods as CanaryGT's car, dyno'd at 270rwhp on a Mustang dyno, which usually give lower numbers. Canary did his on a dynojet I believe and got 300rwhp, so the type of dyno has plays a big factor.

tl;dr, don't waste money dyno-ing a car without AT LEAST a head swap, I would only take a car to get dyno'd and tuned after big mods ie; full HCI, power adder, nitrous etc.

I have a 351 but that's going to be a clevor build in something old school. Im not paying for the dyno run my buddy wants to see where the cars are for shits and giggles as a gift. I think I should try and get mods instead.

Yup. I gots 300 RWHP. But thats cause mine is FACTORY painted yellow. If you re-spray the car yellow it goes slower.... :)

Yeah, tuning will be a near waste, but you can use the dyno to bump up the timing to the cars optimal point. Usually 13* but sometimes you can go a degree or two higher, depends on the car, that "mod" per say will make more power than anything and will benefit most from the dyno at this point.
