Bought e8 spray can for my front number but it does not match. Is the paint wrong or is this not e8 vermillion red? IMG_1093.jpeg

you will never get a perfect match on a 20-30 yr old car from an off the shelf paint unless you are just that lucky. It fades over time and then ya never know if the formula is off just a hair and throw everything off. Some big cities they can take a scan of your paint and feed that into a computer that spits out a formula for a matching color or very very close. Naturally this will cost more than ordering a can online but if you want it to match your going to pay.

Your car looks darker than Vermillion red in that photo. Vermillion should be a pretty bright red like the bumper.

If you've got an O'Reilly nearby that mixes paint, they should be able to scan your car and most that mix paint should be able to mix a rattlecan. The custom mixed rattlecans are like $30ish a pop.

What is this black magic place you speak of? I have stock in o'reilly's and never heard of one that mixes paint before. There are places that do this? Hell I have only found small autobody supply shops that could possibly do something like this, never a big box.

Yessir, they're more common in different areas - like in Middle TN, just about every other store was a paint store - over here near Memphis, we've got a few spread out. Just depends on the competitors and the market. Paints a lot of fun.

I don't think the car is either though? Look a little closer for signs of overspray or spots that the original color still shows and maybe it has been repainted.

Rattle can paint job will perform poorly on a front bumper with all the bugs and grit hitting it. But if you want to go and spray it with a rattle can you're going to need at least four cans of paint. It's surprising how little coverage you get out of a can of spray paint if you want to have a decent thickness of paint.
