EGR code

I am getting a cel a few minutes after start up. Each time I start the car, no code. A few minutes later, cel. Seems to run fine either way. I pulled the codes and it says EGR problem. Can the EGR be cleaned, or will it need to be replaced?

I have to get her inspected this month, and I won't pass with a check engine light.

it CAN be cleaned, but it probably just needs to be replaced

Mechanically, the car is unchanged since 1995, minus any pieces parts that needed replacement like the alternator, dizzy, balancer, etc, so I know that the hoses are where they belong. That being said, could a dry-rotted vacuume line cause the computer to throw the code?

Also, the car has been sleeping in the garage all winter, and I'm getting ready to put her back on the road. Could the unused gas in the tank be causing the car to run poorly enough to throw the code? There was less than a gallon in there, and it actually ran out of gas a couple of weeks ago. I put some more in there, and it ran a little rough for a minute once I got her re-started.

Check the vacuum lines going to the EGR and fuel pressure regulator. They are two hard plastic lines inside a piece of wire loom. They break by just looking at them and you wont see the break until you pull the wire loom off.
