Hey I was wondering what exactly you need to rebuild a 5.0 Cobra. And if anyone knows where to buy a "rebuild kit" and how much?
Thanks.

There's a thread in the builds section where you can follow along with the build of my 306. Of course, it's not finished yet but it will give you an idea what you're in for.

You'd need stuff like:

Dial indicator (magnetic base)
Feeler gauges
Piston ring compressor
Piston ring installer
Harmonic balancer installer
Camshaft degree kit
Torque wrench

...and more. Plus all the normal sockets and wrenches and such.

Look on summit for an inexpensive rebuild kit. You'll need to have the block machined as well if you want to make sure everything is in check.

If the car is going to be daily driven I highly recomend the 331. Better rod stroke ratio less harsh on internal components (longer lasting). If car is not going to be daily driven 347 (not saying 347's are not reliable) all I am saying is that 331's last longer. The 347 should make more power and tq. Both with the correct combonations will make good power.

I truly thought the exact same thing.

That was until I had a conversation with the master....Ed Curtis on possibly building me a motor and was unsure whether I wanted a 331 or 347.

I threw the rod ratio line at him and this was what he responded with.

Rod ratio = eight rods per crankshaft... Rod ratio is nothing but BS and internet neophites trying to sound important. Same with rod angularity, piston compression heights and any other BS some idiot wants to say. Ask how many engines these internet people actually built. It'll bring out the truth. If you want to do a short block yourself CHP makes a nice 347 kit. Uses a 5.315 long rod, a 3.400 stroke and a nice forged piston. Not too expensive either.

Yep. All the crap that gets spewed on the internet about stroker kits not working for daily drivers is bullshit. If you're going to spend the money anyway, get a 347 kit.

The 347 kit I bought came with 5.400 long rods...... Did someone make a mistake?
