after seeing the post about the ls1 swap, it got me thinking.

i have this engine that i acquired about 5 years ago that i have yet to do anything with. i my knowledge, i have yet to see this swap done.
i realize the amount of work that would be needed to make it work. but im up for the challenge.

its a 70 351c 4bbl headed engine. my plans were to get an all forged 393 stroker kit with 10.5 to 11.0 to 1 compression, get the heads
worked over. to put the engine in my 94 i wanna go fuel injected. the manifold would have to be drilled for injectors. i would probably go
with a F.A.S.T. management system for the engine. probably run 42lb injectors and get the elbow to allow for a fox tb. obviously i would
have to put a tubular k member in the car and get custom built headers to work. those heads flow just over 300 cfm on the intake at .600 lift as they sit and the exhaust flow about 186 cfm at .600 lift. i flowed the heads myself when i went to NTI just after i got the engine. ive got a eddy torker manifold to go on it. i think it would probably take a little more work than its worth but the coolness factor is worth it
to me. gimme all your opinions, suggestions, you can tell me im completely out of my mind if you want. lets hear it.

I like the swap its cool thats its a cleveland but most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyways probably. I am in the middle of a 393 build myself and I've had it for about a year and stuff ain't cheap for it. Depends on what YOU want. do the damn thing I say. It's not about the destination its about the journey..

i agree that a lot of people wouldnt know what engine it is. i think it would be neat to put that engine in an sn95. the most difficult part would be the headers. those heads have so much flow potential. it has 2.19 intake and 1.71 exhaust valve size. you can damn near put your whole fist through the intake port opening. those heads are really a little much for a street engine but i would stroke it to 393 to make the cube difference back up.

You would definitely need a big stroker to make it street friendly. Clevelands can be nasty motors, but they have such huge heads and valves that in order to maximize the flow potential, you really a serious combination with some serious cfm moving through it.

i agree about the need for more cubes with those heads. those heads have an 8,000 plus rpm potential as they sit. ive done some research on the strong points and weaknesses of the cleveland engine. the weakest point is the oiling system. if i were to go through with the build, the block would receive some extensive mods to make the oiling system better. i would up the cubes to 393 cubic inch also.

Cool idea. I sold my Cleveland just before I got my 95. :-\

The cheapest way to solve the oiling problem on a Cleveland is to run an external oil line from the port just above the fuel pump boss to the port on top just aft of the intake manifold. A 3/8th line is all you need. It takes higher pressure oil from just off the oil pump and puts it at the rear of the cam and rear main where its needed most.

Id love to build a Clevor stroker with the new Edlebrock Cleveland heads and Fuel injection put it in a classic Stang. My next project. :dancing6:

I saw a 95 with this swap in it this year. He left it carbed and put a 150 shot on it. Remember the 71 cleveland has a generator not an alternator. Very cool swap I say go for it. Oh and it will bolt right up to a 5.0 k memeber and they used off the shelf hooker headers. They said it was an easy swap.
