Engine/transmission tapping

I have 109k on my engine it's an 01' gt motor with manual tranny. I get an annoying tapping noise that doesn't start until the engine warms up. As the engine begins to warm up the noise gets steadily louder until the engine is warm. The car does not make the noise when the engine is cold. The sound also goes away when I push the clutch pedal in. It sounds like the noise is coming from the transmission but my buddy said it sounds like it could be valve tapping. I'm at a loss to figure out what this is and any comments/ questions are appreciated.

Bump. The transmission is a t45 if that helps. The weirdest thing is that the noise is only there when the engine gets warm, when it's cold it sounds fine. Could it be really bad clutch chatter? I have a king cobra clutch and ever since I've had the car the pedal has been slowly engaging higher to the point where it's almost at the top of the pedal range. Do I need an adjustable clutch cable? This is my first car with a manual so I don't really know much about noises.

it could be a variety of things, could be a tob, but in theory that should make noise at all temps. or the clutch fork moving against the dust shield because you said your clutch is engaging at a higher point . thats your cable stretching

I know the temp thing is what confuses me most. So an adjustable clutch cable would be a start? Is there any way I could tell if it is the clutch fork against the clutch sheild?

Don't use an adjustable cable. Get a factory Ford one. worth every penny.

Do you have an aftermarket quadrant and adjuster? or is it stock. you may only need to lift the pedal.

funny story. I've had an oem cable in both my mustangs, both have snapped and I've used the same Steeda clutch cable as its replacement. maybe I have bad luck with stock cables but they have been nothing but horrible for me. Granted the Steeda has a stiffer feel to it, I'll live with it if I don't have to deal with the bs of clutchless shifting my way home because I snapped a clutch cable lol.

I had the steeda for a while but put an oem one on when my clutch fork decided to drop out.

It looked a little stretched already after just a few thousand miles lol

I think my stock cable may be maxed out because when I lift up on the pedal nothing happens

why lol.

lift car. undo dust cover. detatch from quadrant if by yourself, if you have a buddy, have them push in the clutch, once its in hold the fork in place, have them let go, take the cable off. then undo it from the pedal and take it out.

i've done it a few times ha

Well heres why it was so hard lol,
1) I was doing it by myself
2) I was doing it in the dark

Why was I doing it in the dark? well because the clutch cable decided to snap while I was visiting family in Oklahoma for the weekend, and while I was at my friends house it snapped so it was stuck at his house and I had to leave the next morning to go back home so thats why LOL

once you are on the highway you don't need it lol. my only concern is how to take off without it haha

if you press the clutch in as though you have it, it'll trip the clutch switch so you can turn the car over. it'll lurch but get the car moving. slide the shifter into neutral the car will coast, fire the car up and rev match into gear. perfected the art the last time it happened to me, I was 2 and half hours away from home...

yup. it may put a little load on the starter to do that, but, the ones on the 4.6/5.0 are pretty beefy.
