EVAP Testing

Gentlemen, have a 2002 GT with about 210K miles. I just replaced the gas cap (Motorcraft) and am now getting more codes (P0442 EVAP control system small leak 0.040 and P0456 EVAP small leak). I had a smoke test done and it is showing a leak with the vapor canister and/or the purge valve.
I don't want to start replacing parts until I get it right. How can I test the components electrically to see which are dead or alive. My electrical ability amounts to plugs, coils, & bulbs and that's about it. I'd like to find out what kind of tester I need and what voltage is required. Where can I access that info for these small parts?
Thanks in advance.
