Hey Guys

Just picked up my 99 mountaineer motor. Im swapping over the manifold and tb from my old motor along with the timing cover and oil pan/pump while upgrading the springs and throwing in an 86 cam.

Did you guys switch to a stang balancer also or use the explorer one? My original one has 151K on it while the mountaineer motor only has 81k, so Id prefer to use the lower mileage one if I can.

Also, what spark plugs did everyone end up using?

Im wondering the same. I believe you have to switch intake, all front accessories, harmonic balancer, headers, springs, cam, pump, pan, pickup... etc. I will be using NGK TR55IX Iridium plugs.

id just go buy a new balancer from a parts store... i believe they are around 30-40 bucks... cheap insurance... also regular autolight copper plugs work just fine... dont waste your money on iridium plugs as you will see no difference in performance or mileage....

We have done quite a few of these swaps, they are cheap hp. The intake works fine, all you need to do is put an adaptor elbow on it for an sn, and then the throttle body off an sn as well. It doesn't have the smog hole running through it so no need to run the smog pump and there is no EGR going into the intake, so you can use the SN95 set up. the balancer, we used a mustang one because of all the crap for the distributorless ignition setup, we also swapped out timing covers for the same reason, but they looked identical other than where the DIS stuff hooks up, and you will have a hole where the crank sensor went into the timing cover as well. So just use your mustang one. The oil pan is different. The fuel rails and injectors are different. coolant temp sending unit for the gauge, we replaced that, and the temp sensor for the computer, well we used the one of the sn95. Put a pilot bearing in it before you set it down in the car if yours is a manual trans. Make sure you have MAC or FRPP GT40P specific headers. Swap cams, as you already mentioned. Pick up tube is very different, so get one of those from advance or somebody. we used the sn95 valve covers too. that's about all I can think of. hope it helps.
