f-250 making wierd noises

hey guys, my dad is having problems with his 2003 f-250... Its got 118,000 miles on it. Its wierd becuase when we're driving down the highway at about 60 or so, it seems like the transmission starts to make a whining noise. Sometimes its only at like 25 mph. Its not at any particular rpm either. any ideas? thanks :icon_salut:

Diesel? Gas? v8 V10? stick? auto? assuming 4wd..

does the noise deflect with any change in front drive axle, ie hubs lock or unlocked in 4wd or not. also does itchange when turning?

I'm not sure if it does it in 4wd... w don't drive it in 4wd on the roads. It only does it when going in a straight line.

Converter clutch, make sure it has Mercron V in it.
