Fan Situation..(Pics provided now)

So..

Still trying to diagnose my fan situation, I tried switching my old sensors, got the sensors mixed up so I switched them both for shits and kicks..

When I went to tighten down the passengers side sensor, I was barely tightening it and felt it pop a bit..so Im pretty sure the threading is stripped on the intake..I went to put the old sensor in with thread tape..aaaaandd its leaking a bit. Also noticed that sensor didnt work..as I didnt read any temprature, whatsoever..so I put the green one back in on the passanger side, and its leaking..but reading temp..

Fantastic.

So I dont even know what to do. If my ******* fan would work I wouldnt be so worried to drive it, even with a bad o2 and exhaust leak..

I plan to thread tape it more and silicone it so it doesn leak, but I want to be sure I have the right sensor in the right spot. Heres pics of my situation..

I switched over my old sensor on my old intake for the temp..isnt there only one sensor on the NPI intake that swaps over..? If I used the newer sensor that came with the PI intake, wouldnt that still kick the fan on..?

God Im confused..anyway..









Can anyone take pics that did the PI swap of their clips..etc etc..thanks..

you should just be to use your old sensors and be fine. re thread the hole that you stripped

Did you test the fan manually? Maybe the motor itself took a dumper on you?

Sometimes the CCRM(located in the passenger side front fender) takes a crap and that messes with your fan...

I would check ALL the connections around the radiator/front of the motor to make sure one of the wiresfor the fan isn't partially unplugged or something....

On a side note, my 96 GT had the same problem, but it turned out to be a bad/old fan... However since you have a 98(?) the fan/radiator design has been updated and you shouldn't have the problem...

I checked the plugs..theres one in the center of the fan, its fine..wiring goes up to the pass side fender, into where my fender well intake is..then goes up and around..

make sure your making contact with the sensor to plug, i just walked outside and mine came loose a hair so i had to push it back in place.. then again i took my intake off two days ago.. and didn't route the wires right so its tight

I am..Willis-is there anyway you can snap pics, like I did? Im running out of ideas on this whole thing..just pics of the plugs from the harness even. Would be much appreciated..

My pass side sensor is leaking a little bit after a lotta thread tape..Im gonna end up siliconing around the base of it..Seal that bizitch up.

Is there ways to isolate this too?
Maybe turn my AC on..see if the fan kicks on..
and I heard if you disconnect the drivers side plug from the intake it kicks the fan on..? yes..no?

I asked around..and people are saying that the "coolant light" isnt a fan light..only kicks on when coolant level is low..

Then again my car never got to middle of the gauge to kick the fan on..but my coolant level was fine from what I remember..

Is there any chance the sensor on the pass side of intake (temp gauge sensor) is reading wrong..and isnt showing enough temprature to send to the other sensor to kick the fan on? Just a thought..I have no idea if that is valid or if it makes sense..figured a sensor reads temprature or doesnt read temp..My car doesnt get very warm, thats why Im asking.. Im also hearing from people the sensor on the drivers side of the intake doesnt control the fan..

So should I just go drive it..warm it up until it hits middle gauge..see what happens? Makes me real nervous to do that..hate not to have a fan when I need it. I dont recall seeing the fan kick on when I got home from my 40 min drive either..it was all highway..but dont recall seeing the fan kick on at idle..

Ugh..headache..

Well, if your car never got hot enough to kick the fan on I would wait to see if it does...

So what happens when you turn the A/C on? Nothing? Or does the fan power up?

From the looks of it you have the sensors wired up correctly.

And also as a little heads up, when you try to silicone/threadtape those coolant sensors in place... They usually blow out on you when you're ripping on the car or something like that... Ask me how I know.

Just trying to make sure the cars reading appropriate temp and whatnot..I thought the light coming on was saying the fan wasnt coming on. Ill try to turn ac on, see if the fan kicks on..

I guess you should either have a thread insert put in there or re-thread the hole...

Oh, and I know because mine stripped like that too, so I decided to patch it up with some thread tape... A few weeks later I decided to have some fun with a Pontiac G8... After the third time we went off a dig(The guy couldnt drive worth a crap BTW) my car decided to empty most of its coolant onto the engine via that sensor hole which popped out of the crossover. Pretty embarrasing... So thats how I know lol.

So before I went to work started car and turned on ac. Car ran a few minutes but fan didn't kick on

I would change out both of those coolant sensors first(since they are cheap.)

If they don't solve your problem, then a bad radiator fan is probably your solution...

Try to test the fan motor manually, it may not be dead...
