Alright, well here is my first question. I was thinking about installing some gears in my car, so I called up my local speedshop (JBA Racing, might have heard of them). Anyway, they quote me at $500 for the gear install, plus parts. Now i've seen people around here saying they can get there entire rearend rebuilt for $250-300. So whats up with this huge price difference? I called another speedshop by me thinking JBA was just pricing high because of there reputation, but they were actually more expensive, $650!! So whats up with this? Why is it so much more expensive here in SD?

Next question, I need to buy some new rear shocks. I want to spend about $150-200 on them I was looking at KYB AGK adjustable shocks which are $96 at americanmuscle.com I was also thinking of the cheap-o KYB Gas-A-Just shocks, is there price relative to there quality? What shocks would you suggest? Thanks for your help!

man dont do it for $500. i had my gears installed for $125. as for shocks, i have Strange 10 way adjustables that work great.got them trough jegs. as far as installation goes, try and always do multiple parts at the same time to cut down on cost. like what i did was have shocks,upper/lower arms, and springs installed at the same time. that way you only do it once and get it out of the way. but good luck with gear install.

up here in PA, CJ Pony Parts offer a $600 gear install, everything included. they have a good rep and i know they have good quality. But there are "mom and pop" shops that will do it ALOT less. I personally do everything myself so I know the quality is there, plus the feel of satisfaction of doing it myself. As far as the shocks go. I have the el-cheap-o KYB shocks, just couldn't justify the cost/performance ratio for what I had in my wallet at that time. but everything is just personal opinion. if you know a guy that can do it cheap that you trust, go for it, if you have the tools and a location and feel comfortable, then do it yourself.

I was quoted $350 for the install if I brought my own gears. This was by a well known local shop that does good work.

Wow...that is cheap.

As long as they do good work, that is a steal for that price.
