Those laws are mostly there for officer safety, with tint too dark you can't tell if someone is readying a weapon as you approach the vehicle. that's why they have them.

Not even worth fighting....

This.

It's illegal - for good reason. Law was broken. Deal with it.
I actually don't have any tint at all on the '98 specifically so I don't draw attention.

^ +1 but in FL we need tint not only to keep the car from reaching 200 degrees inside but also to protect the interior.. faded seats, cracked leather, cracked dash etc all from the sun down here. Im fish bowling for the win now though =P

The OP won't win this in court. Basically because he broke the law. Think of it this way, 200 degrees or protecting a cops safety. You could always replace worn seats, a cracked dash or faded parts. You can't replace a life if it gets taken away.

The OP shouldn't even bother fighting this. They are just going to be paying the ticket and wasting their time. If I were the OP either fix it and go to court and apologize and take a pic of the car and a receipt saying it was taken off and hope that the judge will drop the fine or just pay it and deal with it.

Sorry guys I've been busy. I think I'll just end up paying the ticket, but I'm still not taking it off lol. It was on the car when I bought it, and yes I'm aware it's illegal but i drove around with 3.5% on my old Cobra and never caught trouble
Like I said, that cop had nothing better to do that day lol

im fairly positive that in iowa which is the state is the op is in, you can have as dark as you want on the back window. i knew a guy with black vinyl on his back window.

Not even worth fighting, since you don't get points. If I were you, I would remove it and put lighter tint on at least. The shops around here won't do 5% unless you pay cash because they don't want it to be traceable.

Thats exactly what its there for...so with that in mind, why would an officer pull over a car with 5% tint for no other reason than to give him a tint ticket?

Seems kind of silly to me that they go out of their way to put themselves in danger by pulling over a car with dark tint to give some one a 100 dollar tint fine.....

See what im saying?

I don't see what the obsession with dark tint is anyways. 5% is just too much, do you guys not drive at night or what? I almost got a turbo IS300 that had 5% all the way around and like 15% or 30% on the windshield. It was a bright sunny day and yeah, it was pretty nice to not have to worry about the sun and for keeping the car cooler but I would not have driven that at all at night. I'm fishbowlin' in everything I own just because I care more about seeing out of my car at night than what the dude nexts to me thinks about my hair-doo. I like a little bit of tint just to keep from frying myself everytime I get in the car but it's never been worth it to me.

Off topic: I think I figured out why everyone fights here... A person will come on the site, ask a retarded question that he knows the answer too, leave.. and then people come in and talk about it, get in arguements, then the OP shows back up like a day or two later saying... I guess ill pay the fine... Lol amazing...

I would pull someone over in the day time for tint, but not at night.

Scratch that, I wouldn't pull someone over for tint in the first place, but that's just me. However, I suppose at night they could use the advantage of the spotlight to blind the driver so you could approach from another side of the vehicle so the driver is unaware.

I'm not sure how all of this would pan out, but just saying.

OP, thank you for paying lol

I would not driving the car with 5% at night or while raining or try back out, with 5% tint all around, i cant see shit , have to roll window down and stick my head out the window to see what behind before i back out the car, and when it raining its event worse, when make a turn.... anyway i take out 5% and put in 20% all around, and from that day, been doing 20% all around for all my car.

LOL you guy crack me up. I am from a hick town in TN. Drove a lowered truck the whole way thru high school, I had more tint tickets my junior year, then most people have in their life (Lets just say I kept a 3 ring binder for my citations ;) ) and yet still I have never tried to blame a cop for the tint issue. I knew it was illegal when i put it on.

Near clear glass FTW. This thuggin dark tint crap is pointless. If you can't clearly see something on the other side of your window at night(backing up for example) your tint is too dang dark. Plus, a little sun won't hurt anybody, most people need a bit more sun anyhow. That isn't to say though that I think it makes sense to pull over people with too dark tint.. seems too petty. But, what do I know? :flamesuit:

That's exactly why I have it is so people don't see lighters flicking in the car lol. Yes 5% is a little dark if I were to do it again I'd probably go 20, but I dont wanna pay for it again. I just think it's stupid that he turned around to pull me over and give me a $130 ticket because I drive a loud car
