First off, I have a 2000 GT with mach 460 and tan interior. My goal is to switch to midnight black interior and a factory 6 disk changer from an 01 mustang. I like the modified stock look and that is my 'theme'. I want it to be stock looking at a glance but deeper to be changed to make it better.
All that aside i started with the console swap. Not hard, pull out the rubber stoppers underneath the armrest, unscrew brass screws. Pull out and up on the shifter bezel, disconnect cig lighter and TC. Then there are 2 screws holding the console to the dash. I think they are a torx T20. Yank that e-brake sky high and wiggle and jiggle the console out. Now, I suppose there are many ways of going about this but i didnt want to mess with hacking into my harness too much and the parts i did if need be i want to be able to replace them. So what i did is went to the junkyard and picked up the 01+ TC, Foglight, and rear defrost buttons with the accompanying harness and about 10" of wire. I took all the stock tape off the 00 harness and cut off the TC and foglight buttons. Take the 01+ buttons and solder/heatshrink the corresponding colors together. I did notice that you have to cut far enough back on the 01+ buttons to get certain colors to one wire. I think the blue/red had to and then one. But, if you cut them short, just match up colors. Pics up later tonight!

Ok, this is what i started with, notice the foglight slot and vert/coin holder slot.

This is what i will be installing

This is the stock 00 harness, remove this from the console by pulling out the snap in plugs. This is easiest if you unplug the harness from the dash harness and remove it with the console out of the car.

This is the harness to unplug then remove console from car

These are the stupid short harnesses that i received with my bezel...although i wont complain because i actually had 2 connectors and usually they are with the 'donor' car still.

....those dont fit together
DSC00719.jpg

You want to pair these two up by way of soldering/shrink tube

this is the layout of where i wanted the plugs, im picky and wanted the cig lighter with the attached cover in the glove box. This requires lengthening of the ground wire

Wiring Diagrams...helpful

buttons work, and light up

fogs work....TC too ;)

I hope this was somewhat helpful. I realize there has never been much info on it but its very simple, i figured i would post up and confirm that!! I have the double din radio on the way along with basically a plug and play harness to make that work with the stock mach 460.
I will also add a write up ish for the defrost switch, i think this will be a bit more involved but who knows!!
Let me know what you guys think

Can't wait to see more pics. How are you going to mount the Double Din unit??
Well I am a bit of a cheater as i have an entire 04 midnight black dash with metal brace and harnesses waiting for me. Ill mount it just like stock when i get the new dash in
BUt, ill post up pics from svtperformance.com and i think it would be very simple to do, just epoxy a nut onto the backside of the bracket, ill look at it, but i think the new dash will be stock

oh lordy i know, btw radio is shipping out tomorrow. My harnesses(plural?) should be here this week also. I will have to wait until the end of the month ish to get the dash here and bezels but believe me, it will be in ASAP. I'm so friggin pumped because i have double din radio, black console/dash/steering wheel AND exhaust all coming this month :)

I have an 01+ radio bezel already but its missing the buttons... i found the buttons on ebay, but they only have the button and not the harness that plugs into it. Is the only way to find a donor car at a junkyard or something?

Thanks

Go the Ford dealer and ask them to get out their pigtail book/section. Then just buy the individual pigtails for what you need, i have some extra ones but the wires are super short and going to the dealer would pry be easier.

I'm slowly doing the same swap in my '96 Cobra. Your harness modifications look great and the final product looks OEM. Right now I've got the 6-disc from an '01, metra harnesses for my stock radio and the 6-disc, double din radio bezel from a Mach1, and all of the buttons but without the necessary harnesses. I'll probably be doing the center console swap in the future but I put it off because it seems to be the easiest part of all this mess.

I plan on wiring the 6-disc unit first, can you show a little more detail on the wiring harnesses and how you spliced the new unit together? I don't understand what you mean by you ordered the completely wrong number, can you clarify?
Also, did you wire up the defroster yet?
