I know...everyone has flowmasters. I love them. Problem is, the ones I have are old as dirt and have a few leaks, so I need new. My question is... Back in the day (when I originally put them on the car in '95), there were 2 chamber and 3 chamber flowmasters - Loud, and less loud, respectively. I'm, not sure how they're sold today. American thunder? Super 40's?? Which ones are the loudest, and which are not as loud.

I know this has probably been covered 1000X. Sorry.

I'm guessing then that the lower the #, the louder the exhaust?? Does it then make sense that the lower the #, the less restrictive on the exhaust system??

ive got some 10s i had on my 98GT before i switched to Bassani and now SLP but i love the 10s. always got compliments on them. they were loud and also had that chambered muffler sound. kinda like a cross between a Flowmaster 40 and a resonator(glasspack). it had places to sound deeper like a chambered muffler then got raspy around 2700-3200RPM. i loved them though.

I have the FM 10's also. Love them. Today they sell the "Original 40" and the "Delta Flow 40". The Original 40 is supposed to be a little louder in and out of the car. The 44 is similar to the 40 but different and you should give a listen to some youtube videos. But generally YES you are right, the lower the number, the less chambers or the louder it is.
BUT- Now they have new products like the Outlaw and the Hushpower and different versions of each, They sound great too!

50, 60, & 70 Series are 3 Chamber (60 Series is for 4 cyl or 6 cyl)
40 Series Delta Flow, Super 40's, and Super 44's are 2 Chamber (Super 40's are loudest, apparently 40 Series and Super 44's are similar.) I believe Delta Flows are designed to decrease drone.
Super 10's are 1 Chamber

That's all I know.

I have the american thunder catback and I believe they are just 40 series mufflers. I thought about getting 10 series, but I got SLP loudmouths. From what I've heard they sound about the same down low

The drone is pretty annoying...I think I'm gonna go with Delta flow 40's.

Does Dynamat or other sound deadening material under the carpet help with the drone?

If the drone is annoying don't buy flow masters. I have 10s. But I will never buy another set of flow because of how bad they drone.
