I'm buying an engine that's set up specifically for a turbo application. It sports 8:5.1 compression Speedpro forged pistons, a non-roller hydraulic am (.540" x .526" lift @ valve - I have a copy of the cam card for the rest of the specs) and Procomp 210cc / 2.05 x 1.60 heads Naturally, I'm buying the motor first, turbo second. I talked to Wes, my dyno tuner earlier today about the possibility of tuning it to run N/A until I buy the tubro/fuel system upgrades/etc. He felt that the comp ratio should be in the 9.3-9.5:1 range for more low speed "cruising power" Wes is pretty sharp but a busy guy so I'll ask you guys the follow up question I have. With the low compression, would that mean the motor will be a turd N/A? Once I boost it, will it be lazy until a certain rpm or ??

i wouldn't say that its going to be lazy but its not going to make the power it would have at say 9.3or 10.0:1 its still going to make good power NA but it wont be the NA beast i think your looking for.

Turbo charged the car will gain some low end torque because of the turbo and thats just what they do. your top end will be amazing because of how turbochargers flow and don't drag on the motor.

exactly how i was going to say it and what wes was probably getting at was you can change pistons to increase the ratio until you are ready for the turbo.

I ended up not buying that particular engine because I remembered my luck with used parts. So... I bought a SVO 351w block, and going to build a 408! I still have forced industion in my plans though.
