I saw a guy at the track chilling his upper with a bag of ice. I was surprised at how much bumping the timing was good for as well. I was looking for this article on Junkyard bolt ons. It was on that forum but I can't find it. It was pretty much a list of parts you can get at a junkyard.

When I'm at the track I bring two bags of ice in a cooler. One goes on the intake, the other goes on the intake/TB/CAI. In my convertible it was always worth two tenths.

At first I was like WTF? Thats not going to do anything. But then I realized it's no different then putting the filter in the fenderwell.

It's actually better than putting the filter in the fender. The intake actually gets cold. Not just ambient. If I'm trying for a new best, I'll sometimes freeze the intake for an hour or more between runs. I've used my laser temp probe and have gotten the manifold and CAI down to ~50* before when the ambient temperature outside is much hotter.

It really cools the air going into the motor that much? Thats pretty crazy.

I didn't believe it either when I first tried it, but based on my runs at the dragstrip in two different cars, it appears it does make a difference.

I went from consistent 13.0s to 12.8-12.9 in one car, and from 14.2s to 14.0-14.1 in another. Plus, my quickest run ever (13.993) in my black car came immediately after freezing the manifold for an hour.

Like I said, it works for me and a few other guys I know swear by it as well. My personal experience with it has been consistent enough to rule out "chance" IMHO.

+1 to what Paul is saying. The icing the manifold/intake method has been proven for several years through magazine tests, independent tests, etc...

In fact, Anderson Ford Motorsport sells these Gel packs that you freeze, or ice in a freezer and then wrap around your intake and intake tubing in order to keep them really cool. They even make them so that they can be left on during the run, as they are a no-leak design that's secured with Velcro straps.

I just started to ice the intake on my last trip to the drag strip but the car is not tuned so it was running pretty crappy so I have not yet seen the benifits.

I'd like to see them do one on an npi and a pi.

npi would gain 10hp from all of them combined and it saddens me but still makes me want to see it.

What did it run your last time out with the new combo?

it sucked paul its needs a tune so bad. I think its just dumping way to much fuel into the engine I upgraded to #36 injectors from #24's and there had been a lot of changes from the last combo and Its just to much for the computer to handle w/ out a tune. Plus I was on my Nitto's and not my MT DR's and weld rims but long story short I only did 2 runs both were 2.2 60' times both were 13.7's and one was at 105 and the other at 106. Trapping 12s and running high 13's so that tells you how bad this needs to be tuned. Im not even sure what the Fuel PSI is set at, I bought a gauge but it was leaking so I just sent it back to summit today so when I get the replacement I'll put it on and see where the PSI is at.

Don't stress dude. A tune will make a big difference. When I first put in my old 418 it ran like CRAP with the stock tune.

I had Jerry from FordChip do my first tune; it was just okay. Then I had Keith from AZ Dyno Chip do it over again. After nearly an entire day on the dyno the tune was much better, but the T4M0 never really worked as well as I would like. The tune is definitely better with my AEM, although it has its own pitfalls that annoy me.

Once you get a good solid tune go back and get us some better numbers. :)

yeah Im not stressing to bad, I knew it would be in need of a tune but I didnt know how bad until I did run it. It pulls F'ing hard I can tell its got more power then before but I also know Im leaving a lot of power on the table w/ out the tune. Im looking at getting it done late this month or early sept.

that first comparison is odd. The 1.7's lost power with the more modified engine.

I want to see a comparison between a bone stock 5.0 and then all of those bolt ones done. Each bolt on seemed to gain 5-6rwhp. Unless there was that comparison done?
