I need a new timing chain for my truck since it started changing it's timing randomly. Anyhow, Ford, being Ford, of course decided in 84 that they would change the fuel pump from a 2 piece to a one piece eccentric. My truck is an 83, but I have no idea when it was built and vehicles with a build date after 3/22 use the later piece.

All this brings me to my point here, I don't really feel like tearing the truck down then ordering the part, I'd rather do it in one shot, so FRPP has a timing chain listed for all years of 260/289/302/351w but I don't know if that's an oversight of if they actually have provisions for either fuel pump eccentric. Everyone one else has two different chains listed, so if anyone can shed some light here, I'd really appreciate it.

The only thing I'm aware of is when ford switched to the "silent drive" timing chain late in 93.. Every time I order a timing chain for
my 94 or 95 I order it for a pre-93, and I'm unaware of any other design of timing chain.. Perhaps those are the 2 they are refering to? I've been
told/read that the pre-93 use a double roller design that is stronger than the 94+ design, and it's cheaper too.

Nope, this predates your SN, you have no fuel pump eccentric, or provision for a fuel pump on your timing cover.

This may be irrelevant but i know when my harmonic balancer went sour on my old 95 Vert it caused all sorts of problems with my timing have you checked it.

I haven't, but the timing chain is definately bad and definately changing enough that I had to completely reset it and find TDC twice.
