wondering if its safe to have a fuel cell in the bed of a truck uncovered? i see a few trucks with them but seem to all have tonneau covers. not ure about the heat from the sun exposure causing an explosion or some shit, lol. thanks for any info fellas :)

The way I look at it is a cheap cover is good insurance. Being exposed in the hot ass sun probably isn't a good idea!

the one i wanna get has the fuel pump wires directly on top. plus a 1/2" port on top. is that port there to vent? like throw a small cone air filter on it?

Post a link or picture.. You don't wana vent in the bed of a potential frame dragger for obvious reasons.. Fuel vapors are extremely explosive!

That's very similar to one of the ones I have , are you planning to recess it in the bed floor at all ? Body drop going down ? Or just c notched frame layer ? Direct sun couldn't be a good idea I would think because gas expands like a mofo when in the heat

laying frame. think i might build a box/cover around it. then a whole on top for gas cap and one for the vent port filter. think that will be good?

Yes BUT might be a good idea to add an EVAP [charcoal] canister to soak up the vapors before venting to atmosphere

people have their fuel cells exposed in the off road world everyday, from the daily driver truck to the race trucks that compete in 100+ degree weather.
