The other day I filled up just as I was heading home, I had to drive 48 miles. When I got to my hometown, I filled up. It was 24 MPG. Since that fill up it has been nothing but town driving. I drove 20 miles to another town and filled up and got 12 MPG! I know it got bad, but somethings not right, right? I had 91.7 miles on like 7.6 gallons. Anyone know of something I don't? I am pretty sure I have not messed with my trip thing! See ya!!

When you fill up in small portions then it throws the calculations off because of the fill up tube let it get down below half a tank then fill up I get 17/21 driving normal and about 10 with boost.

My 1st job was @ a full-service gas station. I never just stop putting in gas @ the 1st click. I easily put almost another gallon in. I always have and I always will. For that reason, I thought it would equal itself out. I understand what you typed, quickstang! It took me reading about 12 times, but I got it! I cannot really say my average MPG because gas is so high where I live! It is always 10-25 cents cheaper if I drive 20 miles. It gets a lot cheaper if I can drive 36 miles! Thanks guys!!

One thing I have noticed, I don't have a 5.0 but I think it might be similar. If I do 100 miles of city driving in 10 short trips I get WAY worse mileage than 100 miles of city in one outing.

Something may be wrong

I dunno like what? I know its running a bit rich? I just think shes thirsty.
you could just drive like my wife (foot to the floor and higher shift points), She like to hear the sound.

check the fuel filter, O2 sensors, injector cleaner (chevron concentrated stuff is good) etc. I seen a major pick up in mpg. i get well over 24 on the highway and that is cruising 80-85 normally

The reason multiple short trips kill your milage is the car is constantly in warm up-mode and open loop... if you do one long trip, engine is able to warm up, get into closed loop and start being more precise and efficient about it's use.

Our 94 convertible GT with a 5 speed gets 15-20 depending on city highway and that's with 2.73s... and we all have heavy foots but we didn't get or drive this car for fuel economy!!! I can only imagine what the mpg will be with 3.73s.

better because 2.73 are a bad mismatch 3.73 will have be better all around

Really, how so? I tell you I don't like how not snappy 1st gear is, and I don't like how rediculously low the rpms drop in 5th gear. I know it's for highway economy, but the car just seems like a dog off the line and kind of a PITA in stop and go because first is too tall and many times I find myself just cruising in 4th until I hit about 60 mph

If you had a boost gadge it would be easy for you to see while driving but lower rpms hurts gas mileage because to speed up it take more fuel to raise the rpm's. when the car is being a dog it takes alot of fuel to actually go nowhere. the best rpm for the interstate is around 2300-2500.

I have a '93 F-150 with a 5 speed manual tranny. I usually shift into 5th once I get to about 40 MPH if I am cruising steady. As you can imagine with a truck I am doing what I can for fuel mileage.

yea with 2.73s city mileage will be low. I'am getting 12 mpg right now because i don't take the freeway or any thing its stop and go and stopping and starting the motor seval times is what kills the fuel economy.
