gas mileage

Hey, now that gas is so expensive, I wanna re-examine the list of things I've been "gonna do" to my '95 GT convertible. Any idea how each of the following will effect my gas mileage? Each thing should result in a little power gain, which in my inexperienced (hopeful) view of the universe should translate to better gas mileage...

1. Change timing and switch to premium. Will the mileage increase (if any) offset the increased cost of the gas?

2. JLT cold air intake. I was gonna go with the BBK one, but there's been some nocks on it regarding heat soak.

3. Underdrive pulleys.

4. Exhaust. Was planning on switching to long tubes, catted x, and flowmaster catback.

5. H/C/I. I'm nowhere near doing this one yet, but I'm curious. Say I use something equivalent to the trick flow top end kit with 24lb injectors and a 70 or 75mm tb. (Aluminum heads would reduce weight, too)

6. Suspension. I know tire pressure can play a huge role in gas mileage. What about the suspension at large? Will new shocks/struts/springs or other suspension parts make a difference?

I've been planning on doing all this since I got my stang... I just haven't had the money or the time and keep putting it off. But if some of these really would increase my gas mileage, it'd be easier to justify doing (and I want to!).

Best things I have found that increase gas mileage are a proper running car. Im not aware of adding parts that will increas HP will also increase gas mileage.

1. Fresh plugs, wires, cap & Rotor fuel filter.

2. Clean the Mass Air Meter

3. Proper inflated tires.

4. Your driving habbits.

If you want to mod the car dont expect your gas mileage to go up along w/ it. As your power level goes up it requires more fuel thus decreasing your gas mileage, hence the reason for stepping up to bigger injectors as the power increases. You can still mod a car quite a bit and not really notice to much change, Im still getting 17MPG on the highway untuned and it should be closer to 20MPG once I get a dyno tune done. If you still want to do all this stuff then go ahead Im just saying your MPG wont go up with it. BTW Ive got a set of #24 injectors for sale.

What Venom said.

On the BBK CAI- I have one- I actually started a long thread in the Garage forum about it, and I'm probably going to fab a new one out of PVC. It looks nice (to me, anyway), but it's not functional.

That and my new Yokohamas (a little more rolling resistance than the Goodyears) probably explain my mileage going from ~20 to ~18 MPG. But the vastly better ride and handling are worth it :thumb:

As for driving habits- I haven't noticed a huge MPG difference unless I'm giving it the cane constantly, my MPG's are pretty consistent.
