My '11 says recommends premium fuel. I thought that was the middle one, so I got 91 for the 1st month. I then heard that was 93, so I got that. I don't have much $ now. I set aside $100/month just for gas. I take that & get it on a Walmart gift card to make sure I don't blow it. There are WM 20 miles, 36 miles, & 48 miles from where I live. 20 miles has 87, 89, & 91 octane. 36 has 87, ?, & 93 octane. 48 has 87, 89, & 91 octane. I'd rather go there b/c it's just a bigger town. It what I need isn't @ a Walmart, there are 3 there. Plus just has more everything. Why I brought this up, a friend says it's bad to mix octanes. Says it clogs up your fuel lines & stuff. I haven't heard this from anyone else. My 1st job I was a full service attendant, Sure I have forgotten a lot, but think I would remember hearing this. I had 93 & ran my car too low to get back for more. I ran it down to where it said I had 7 miles left. Filled up with 91. I still had 1.6 gal in my tank. Mixing octanes doesn't do anything, right? Thanks!!

I thought it sounded kind if funny. On my $100, it helps that I don't have that much of a life. Don't go see my friends like I used to. No need for more than that. No job to drive to, also.

Using 91 will be fine. You cant even get 93 here, 91 is as good as it gets

yeah same here. Have not been able to get 93 since the gas spike of $4+ a gallon a few summers ago. New Hampshire still has 93 though

91 is the highest too where I live in the Great North. I run it in my car and run 87 in my escape. Mixing octanes doesn't do anything, it's all gas, just the higher the octane level=the less prone to detonation your car is :)

Mixing gas is fine. Hell, that's how most stations get their mid-grade fuels. Here they mix the 87 & 93 to get 89.

93 FTMFW though.

man you have a 2011 Mustang and you buy gift cards so you don't spend your money on other things?

Try using 110 octane if you can find it. I have a gas station where I live that offers it, talk about a power gain! It's crazy that it can come from just fuel

What's the cost on that a gallon?

JJhirsch, sorry I don't pick up on jokes that well now! The manual says t runs on 87, just performed better on premium. Something like that.

The 110 octane is a little over $6.50/gallon. Definitely not a daily gas lol, but if you want to hot rod around town it makes it that much better especially if you have a programmer

LOL...87 octane won't "brake" your engine, only the brakes do that...the computer will adjust to whatever you run in it. Better power with the higher octane though & makes me feel better. About the only harm low octane can do is cause pinging & in older cars that couldn't adjust if you didn't back off when you heard that maybe you would eventually have premature damage. Supercharged cars...different story.

Yeah you have to readjust the timing or it does not matter what you dump in for octane. The extra power does not come from the gas its self, its b/c the gas fends of detonation better at higher octanes so you can run more timing which gives you more power
