Im reading that if you have auto then 4.10 are the choice but seems for manuals, 3.73 are preffered. I see that its really all owner preference, but curious as to why. With mine being daily and some highway Ill go 3.73. Im more interested in the track and road course with some light to light action. Ill leave the top speed highway runs for the SRT.

Because the internal gearing in the transmissions is different, and a converter add's in another factor, but I'll skip that for now.

With a 5.0, you have a decent amount of low end power, with that and a 4.10 gearset, you'll blow through first gear pretty quickly, making it essentially useless nearly. You'll be able to start in second on flat or sloped downhill ground.

exactly what jr said.....theres some good calculators online that will compare the internal gears of auto/manuals.

Autos need like 4.10s to even match a 5 speeds first gear with 3.27s haha

becareful on what you select.

I bought a Performance Automatic AOD-E with the 4R70W wide ratio gearset.

Well, not thinking about it - I already had 3.73 gears.

302 pushrod + Wide ratio gear set + 3.73's = 4.41 first gear :nonono:

I burn up the tires anytime I hit the gas with half throttle or more on the street. Too much gear for me. I should have ditched the 3.73's and gotten 3.55's - oh well...

3.73 to 3.55 isnt a big jump...you may need 3.27s

Stock was 2.73 in my 94auto. I might be wrong though. It has been some years since ive done anything with the gearing.

That's not true, my 97 came with 3.27's, not a cobra, and I watched it roll off the truck from the factory.

We who, you got a turd in your pocket? 3.27's were available as far back as 1992. On NON Cobra's, so, you fail, and he fails.

Stock 5 speed came with 2.73's.

Autos came with 3.08's and had an optional 3.27 upgrade.

Since this is posted in the general tech section I'll say that 3.27 was available on 96GT's. Mine is a 248a (stripper) and it came with that. Says 327ls on the diff cover.

where is this mysterious code that you all speak of? Door jamb? I read the label and all it tells me is the car is capable of droping panties with the right mods..... I see nothing about gears. :happydrunks:
