Well tomorrow I have a dyno appointment with Bob Kurgan to have my new-to-me cobra dyno tuned. Right now it makes 380/380, its a basic 1.5kb, on 11 psi with meth. I'm planning on getting a more conservative meth tune and a non-meth tune in case I ever run out of meth. I'm considering going to a 8-9 psi pulley, for motor longevity's sake, but I'll consult with Kurgan before I do that.

Is there any thing that needs to be done pre dyno? Things to know? I want to be as prepared as possible. Thanks!

check the oil, tire pressure, take a set of spark plugs just in case. did you buy the cobra from a member off here?

also good luck hope it does as well as you want it to

The basics probably already known or maybe a little overkill but I prepared this way:
Replace fuel filter, Set of spark plugs on hand, oil & high flow filter change, Fill up tank with 93 octane, Air filter cleaned and pcv valve replaced, Coolant was in great condition, Replaced synthetic diff. fluid w/Ford friction modifier.
-Basically: protect anything most effected by the extremely high RPM's and possible heat.
Good Luck with that BEAST of yours!

From what I was told you don't really need two different tunes for with/without meth depending how aggressive you want to get with it. The motor should notice the decrease in intake air temp and automatically bump the timing when the meth is sprayed.

Dyno results

Well I got dynoed today at Kurgan Motorsports. I made 335/318 at 5 psi. It turns out that when you combine a 11psi supercharger pulley, with a steeda underdrive crank pulley, plus a wrong sized belt, you only hit 5 psi lol! I also had a giant crack in my meth line, that they fixed, in addition to my ait sensor, being screwed up (it was incorrectly installed into the intake manifold). Overall I'm pleased with the results at 5psi, Bob Kurgan told me that once I get the belt/pulley/iat sensor corrected, I will be at 400 rwhp, so I'm looking forward to that. Kinda lame that so many things were screwed up, but atleast I now have a safe, tune, and I won't use a gallon of meth a day! Also you can see I was having some spark blowout at the top end of the pull.

Nice right on man... I'd love to ship my cars down there to have him tune them. But I'm very happy with how my cars are running right now

with a supercharger making big numbers and straining the block why would you be worried about underdrive pullies and the 4hp they advertise more then all your accesories working properly?

I kno its only seeing 5psi but isnt 335rwhp Isane low,I mean a stock 96+ cobra is 305 crankhp stock and they dyno around 230-250rwhp, bolt ons alone with tune ive seen them dyno 260-300rwhp n/a so your have a kb blower and bolt ons even on 5psi I would think it would be 350-400+rwhp all day ?

Stock 96-98 cobras dyno about 260. 1psi boost=15hp roughly, 260+(15x5=75)=335 exactly. Yeah the math adds up haha. Its not insanely low at all. Its exactly where it should be at the low psi. I have pullies from 6-7, 8-9, and 10-11. I can turn it up to 400 no problem.

I didnt install the underdrive pullies. The previous owner did, underdrive pullies arent even good on cobras, n/a, even worse on f/i. I agree its not worth the 4hp, also not sure what you mean by straining the block? My block should be fine until I get closer to 450 rwhp.

still seems a tad low. the atmospheric pressure conversion for boost says it's too low.

5/14.7 = 0.340136 +1 = 1.340136 x 260 = 348.43536

Should be at 348rwhp +/- 5rwhp dependent upon cooling efficiency. PLUS all the bolt ons...

Ah gotcha then. By straining the block I just meant that you are putting it under a little more pressure then it is in its stock form correct? At that point I would hope that having the accesories such as the cooling system to support your blower working to their full rather then the 4 hp they claim. I had a set of underdrives and the only good think I thought about them is that I bought them used so I when I sold them 4 months later I didn't loose anything on them.

Actually thats what it hit the first run, 348, but then we discovered the massive meth leak, and also the belt started slipping worse on the final run, which is the run I posted. On the last run, I told him I wasn't there for numbers, this is a safe, temporary tune until I get the issues dealt with. I'm going back when I can raise the funds to have the issues corrected and then I was told 400hp shouldn't be a problem. Also remember this is the 1.5 kb s/c. Not exactly a big number blower, its more for the fun daily driving torque down low. With the 1.5 kb, there are very few running it, but most even with the meth, dont hit more than 380. Check svtp, theres a few with 11psi at 380-385, but most dont get past 360ish with the 1.5 kb.

It's like driving a different car! He fixed a hanging idle, and it runs entirely stronger, more smoothly. It's hard to explain, but the tune made a huge difference. Its incredibly fun as a street car. Especially coming from my old npi auto gt, this feels crazy fast. I'm actually learning to drive a manual trans with this car haha. But I can already spin through second and chirp third easily.
