Hey guys,

I bought my GT about 8 months ago, it is bone stock. I considered selling it but that is a horrible idea! I am looking for some ideas on where to start. I was thinking getting exhaust would be the first thing and then start buying peices here and there and build it. Any ideas would be appreciated. Also, it has a white stripe type thing on the hood that goes onto the fenders as well, I don't necessarily hate that it's there because it is different then everyone elses mustang but if anyone knows a good body shop that could get rid of it and keep the sharpness of the paint then let me know. I would consider getting a cowl for the car as well.

Thanks,

Pictures would be nice. :) But typically first things done include gears, lowering, exhaust. That sort of thing. I'd do gears first if I were you. You'll want to upgrade your intake manifold and cams to Power Improved versions along the way at some point (something I've yet to do myself), unless you plan on going a different route.

Yea I read a lot about the PI swap thingy. I am going to do the exhaust/gears/suspension first of course. Eventually I want to throw on some Chrome rims of some sort. I will throw on some pictures soon. Thanks for the info.

Wow! I must be weird. I usually recommend tightening up the chassis/suspension first but no one has even mentioned that.

98 is good because you have the PI heads/IM.

i'd suggest:
wheels
lowering
and wouldn't mess with engine bolt on's - go for a supercharger like a vortec or whatever falls into your price range.

and enjoy the car!

Pics would be helpfull if you could post them up.

Remeber yours being a 98 you have the bastard fuel system so keep that in mind before you "throw a vortech on it". Power adders arent for everyone, they arent for every application and there are alternatives. Do what you want do research and see what you will use the car for and go from there.

in 1998 they began converting over to return-less fuel systems. problem being: they didnt know what the hell they were doing yet.

some 1998 came with a return style. others came with the returnless, which was tweeked and corrected in 1999 with the new computer system.

so, to put it lightly.... the late 1998 mustangs got a f*cked up fuel system. the returnless style works best with a faster computer (obviously) and the 1996-1998 computers arent as fast as the 1999+.

so. you have an unreliable fuel system (at high-HP applications) thats hard to find parts for (basic upgrades can be simple, but other things, such as a gas tank hat can be difficult) thats hard to tune (although most tuners dont have a problem doing it, they obviously prefer the 99+ computer, or a return style for reliability sake)

if you plan on a high horsepower application, its best to just scrap the 1998 returnless system for an aftermarket set up.

BUT. the 1998s did get a stronger firewall :)

look at the passenger side fire wall, if you have 2 fuel lines 1 supply 1 return, thats a return system...... if there is 1...well thats a returnless...... :)
