so ive been wanting to get a nitrous kit for sometime now. i can finally afford one, and im thinking about picking it up this friday.

http://www.jegs.com/i/Nitrous+Express/744/20421-10/10002/-1

the car: 1996 cobra 127k on body and tranny, 98 cobra factory reman. engine w/ 3k miles. only mods are listed in sig.

my questions.

will i have to do any modifications to the fuel system if i spray 125shot? how about 150?
how difficult is it to install and does it come with full directions?

would anyone else suggest another kit, one that can be purchased on a budget?

i also wanted to get 4.10 gears. im not sure if i will be able to afford Drag radials anytime soon so traction is going to be a huge issue. should i just stay with the stock gears or would it not make much of a difference?

i also plan on getting a tune once i decide to or not to get the gears.

thanks

Ive never heard of the proton kit. Looks like it only goes to 75 shot. No need for the tune. I would put in a bigger pump just to be safe and also get a window switch. It should come with instruction.

thanks. i did a lot more research and figured it all out already. i looked up online and found the installation manual too seems easy enough.

also here is a closer link. this is the proton plus kit. it goes up to 150shot

i thought this would be a good starter kit for me and the stock motor. the timing has to be adjusted too doesnt it?

i was going to buy the kit last night but i decided to wait another couple weeks and then get a tubular k member kit, maybe some new struts too. by the time that stuff gets installed there should be some longtubes waiting to go in also.

i dont think im ready for the nitrous. although the kit is cheap, the little things i need after that ( window switch, fuel pump, TRACTION!!) are going to cost a lot more then i wanted to spend just to get that bang from the buck.

i will reconsider getting a kit around june. maybe ill even find a used one for cheap.

Dynotune makes a real cheap nice wet kit, comes with 75 100 and 150 jets but it holds up to 175 and im running those and it works great.

DO NOT GO CHEAP ON A NITROUS KIT.

You will regret it when you twist your motor up like a pretzel. Look around for zex or NX or even NOS. I have never heard of proton and wouldn't trust it. Your stock fuel pump will be able to run 20 hp(shot) per cylinder. So 125 would be pretty safe. Invest in a window switch which are rpm activated and a wot switch, which I know zex and NX have built into the kits module. You will have to change the plugs to 2 step colder ones and like you said get a tune and it is smart to get certain gauges to monitor all the activity such as nitrous pressure, EGT, and A/F ratio.

There is even more to add for safety. Pressure regulated bottle heater, blow down pipe, etc...

That looks like an ok kit, however I have not heard any feedback on the new Proton kits form Nitrous Express, looks and works similar to the Zex systems. Let me know how you like it.

I have a NOS system with a WOT switch, Window Switch, Fuel Switch and a Bottle Heater. I also have a bigger fuel pump. I suggest all of those.

Also a purge system is nice to have or a blow down tube. Keep that bottle and those lines performing top notch.

id be careful with a 125 or 150 shot on a stock Cobra internals. 4vs have been known to fail around 400 hp

going to look into a window switch.

i havent purchased a kit yet bc i want to get all the little things i need first.

ive heard people spraying 175 shot on stock cobra internals and getting away with it. i dont think id want to spray higher then 125 though just to be safe. remember the engine is basicly brand new at 3000 miles too.

the stock 4v is usually good for about 450rwhp, after that its pretty much playing with fire. now im not sure which kit mesures their shots by rwhp and which ones do flywheel.. but ur car is prolly 265rwhp... add 125rwhp shot is 390rwhp.. id say ur well within the factory engines capabilities and just make sure to use the TPS sensor and a window switch. also i would just pick up a Walbro 255lph

yeah thats what i figured i was looking around for fuel pumps and bbk, trickflow, summit, walbro they were all around the same price.

would you recommend walbro over the rest? or does it not really matter?

ok then walbro is what im going with.

i saw how to swap fuel pumps in the haynes manual, didnt look to difficult. im assuming installing the walbro pump will be the same as OEM?

when im not running nitrous, what will upgrading the pump do for my stock motor? any advantages/disadvantages?

Doesn't really do anything for just the engine without nitrous, but it'll prove it's worth when you hit the bottle.

The Walbro 255 works awesome with my 175 shot, no drop in fuel pressure whatsoever.

alright cool, i just picked up a walbro 255 from someone on svtp, for 50 bucks. said it was only used for 3 runs on a dyno.
the nitrous kit itself wont be a big deal to buy, i think i should concentrate on saving for sticky tires, and a tune first.

i plan on having the system installed and running by the time summer officially starts.
