I've been to the drag strip hundreds of times, but this time will be my first time to be in the driver seat. I'm a little nervous to be honest because I dont know what to expect. I did a little reading on what you need to do in the staging process but, what is the correct rpm I need to hold on my stock 96' GT? Please help me out here guys, I want to have a great time without having to worry about screwing shit up at the track.
Thanks

There is no set RPM number. You have to find that out yourself, sometimes the car will bog out, other times you'll have too much wheels spin, etc etc. Just start off in the low numbers and experiment your way up until you find a good spot. Have fun and let 'er rip

Street tires, no slicks do not drive through the water box, quick 1-2 second spin to get the "stones" off of your tires thats it. Pull up wait for the first "pre-stage" light come on, other lane pre stages. you bump in and "stage" then they go. hold the rpm's around 2500-3000 and let the clutch out smoothly, be smoooooth. you can bump up or down the rpm's if you end up spinning too much.

on my new engine i had to launch at 2200 rpms because any higher on street tires sit and spin on the green. once you hook you will hear your conttrol arms almost sound they wanna rip out the rear and goooooo. keep in a straight line and shift high but below stock redline to keep your rpms from bogging in next gear. (if you have a manual) if its auto, keep straight and press the boring gas pedal.
