Apparently, this girl was driving a 97 Maxima and was leaving her bf's house THREE HOUSES DOWN and "fell asleep" when she hit the cobra and careened off and into the gt. She knocked the gt forward about 3 feet when she hit the cobra. The cops said she wasn't speeding and she wasn't drunk but that she had been up all night partying with her bf and hadn't slept all day. The accident was about 4pm on Saturday. The insurance company said my gt will most likely be totaled out and I'm still waiting to see what's going to happen with the cobra. I'm hoping I get to buy the gt back after they total it out since it was my 32v swapped gt. Man, this sucks. This chick took out 2 of my 3 mustangs in one day.

So only women make mistakes behind the wheel?

Not a chance..

1] Road rage led to me flipping a truck into a tree

2] Peeling out across an intersection while turning left, I put a truck face down in a 15' deep ditch... Cops weren't happy..

3] Got my license taken for cutting donuts in the rain for 15 minutes during daylight hours... Same cops, quite pissed that time..

4] Playing around in my late father's truck years ago, blew the rear end

5] Upon realizing the lady sitting with her turn signal on to turn left even though with a green arrow to turn left, wasnt turning, I rear ended her after sliding 80' in the rain instead of taking the ditch route. It was full of water.

So, in a world of political correctness, I apologize. However, here is some data:

http://www.iihs.org/iihs/topics/t/general-statistics/fatalityfacts/gender

Many more men than women die each year in motor vehicle crashes. Men typically drive more miles than women and more often engage in risky driving practices including not using safety belts, driving while impaired by alcohol, and speeding. Crashes involving male drivers often are more severe than those involving female drivers.

1
However, females are more likely than males to be killed or injured in crashes of equal severity, although gender differences in fatality risk diminish with age.

2
Both men and women traveled more miles in 2008 than in 1995, but the percentage increase in miles traveled was greater for women (13 percent) than for men (8 percent). The rate of fatal crashes per 100 million miles of travel decreased 24 percent between 1995 and 2008 for both male and female drivers.

3
The following facts are based on analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).

Nice comeback, white95! I'm a Certified Safety Professional and a Defensive Driving instructor. Quoting the IIHS is impressive.

There are idiot drivers of both genders. My accidents - first one was on me, hydroplaned on a bridge with nowhere to go except the bumper of the Pontiac behind me. That was 1975, though... Was rear-ended by an off-duty Ohio highway patrolman who wasn't paying attention. Was the front car in a three car accident recently - I stopped for the school bus, the Corolla behind me stopped, the full size Bronco behind him stopped only when his bumper was under the back window of the Corolla. Toyota sammie! Hit a guy in an El Camino once, broadsided him after he made a left turn across traffic in front of me. A bucket that blew out of the back of a pickup on I-30 in Texas cracked the grill of my Dodge once. Drunk hit my parked F250 in my driveway, my neighbor saw it happened and knew the car - we directed the police right to where he parked it WITH THE GRILL FACING THE ROAD and matched the grill pieces he left on my driveway to his grill. Never got hurt. I'm lucky!

Duuuuuude that is one of those "I think I'm gonna throw up" moments. I would literally be sick to my stomach coming home to this.

I hope insurance does you right.

Your neighbor 3 doors down needs to cut your grass for the next year.

I had a guy rear end me in my Silverado at a stop light... that was red... no one was moving.

I got out losing my temper something fierce. Not because of the damage (which, on my truck, there was literally none of - front of his Accord was crushed half way up the hood.) but becuase of the stupidity that nobody was moving and he managed to travel the distance from his car to my truck PLUS the extra inertia to push me forward like 6" before he realized something was wrong. He started going on about how I might be able to calm down because he had two young kids in the back seat. To which I ended my involvement with "THE ONLY FCUKING THING YOUR KIDS HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IS YOU BEHIND THE WHEEL!"

and this ends Tyler's story time.

That's the problem with our cars - unless you've gone through the extent of collectors/modified/antique/whatever insurance, we are all pretty much screwed since it's just gonna be a total loss due to book value.

Maybe, maybe not. Remember my 98 GT got totaled out a couple of weeks ago. I figured I'd get 1500 for the mess considering the age. But AAA says they base their payouts on market value also, which means they would pay me what it costs to buy a similar 98 GT in California. In my case, that amounted to 6K, which is more than I would've ever dreamed possible. That amount allowed me to buy a New Edge AND get my 98 GT back on the road. I will say that YMMV but insurance isn't necessarily lost cause.

Sorry for the loss OP. The pain you feel is something that's still fresh in my mind also. Good luck and let us know what happens....

I had forgotten about that. I have Country and they gave me the same option some years back.

Now I recall that I pay a little more per month because of market value pay out...

This is one of the reasons I have laid off building my 96 GT. I have easily over $10k in parts but the car would only bring back 5-7k in a loss (theft/accident). I might build it as a mild cruiser and divert most of my stuff into a Saleen or Bullitt that will definitely have collector insurance for the correct replacement amount.
