so yesterday morning my grasshopper and i were driving around cruising and boom, and loud snap and oil trailing down the street behind me. not good. oh well. I guess now its time for a new heart. this happened about 9am this morning. I thought about it and decided to use it as an excuse to really clean it up and do a few upgrades as well. after spending most of today pulling the motor/tranny out, and pressure washing my engine bay in preperation for her new heart, here she is. I'm open to opinions and suggestions but I'm thinking i'm just gonna go with a stock motor from www.mpsautosalvage.com and do a SH*T load of bolt ons.: I don't wanna get to crazy with this thing since it's my daily driver and I'm jackin my ole lady car till its done. :angel4:

honestly i dont know what your budget is but the day my mustangs heart goes I'm going to begin building a 331. Nothing insane just a 331 with supporting H/C/I. Oh and mine has to be all smog legal. so like i said it wont be crazy but it should put do2n 450. so my vote 331 stroke that biotch.

Yeah maybe 450 is high lol. If your going tight budget why not just rebuild your blown 5.0?

I'm not shooting for 450. that other guy is. I'll be happy if I can get into stock cobra territory. I'm not trying to be the fastest thing around but I don't wanna be scared of the average z28 either.

search a bit for some used heads, a good intake, a shortblock out of almost any 5.0 powered beast (preferrably local) button it up with some good quality gaskets and bolts, and go beat on it some more... dont forget the nice cam tho...

easiest and cheapest would be buying an explorer 5.0 block. u get decent heads, decent intake, and in a restricted budget i believe that is your best bet

I would find an explorer long block and slap a camshaft in it. then save for a blower. I always suggest when people are on a budget to keep it simple. anything that can go wrong usually will and it helps to have room in your budget.

yeah, thats what I"m wanting to do is keep it as simple as possible. I've got another tab on my browser open right now, I'm looking at www.mpsautosalvage.com. they have a 87-93 5.0 ( forged bottom end ) complete motor w/ harness and all for 849.99. I'm thinking I'll go that route and then hit the local junkyards and search for some gt-40 stuff ( intake, heads ). And that'll be about it.

I like the idea... KISS is allways good... unless you wanna take this blower off my hands.... haha. on a serious note, I have a set of rods and pistons for a 5.0, forged of course.... in 4.00 bore. with wrist pins and rings.
