Great gas mileage cars of all time

So with the rising gas prices, what are some of those cars you DD or wish you had for a DD. Im also interested as i want to get a different car(currently the 2002 taurus ses....BALLER STATUS) so i can get better than 16 mpg. Ill start off with the Saturn LS....my buddy had one and he frequently ran it to redline and still got 35+ mpg. My autos teacher has one, 94 i believe that has 143K and is 'just getting broken in'

My Cobra is my DD and I would not change a thing.

But a good high fuel economy car was a VW Rabbit with a diesel. Back in the day they got about 55mpg, but that was before the ultra low sulfer diesel fuels.

16 mpg out of an 02 Taurus? That's awfully low... My sister's '96 Taurus is generally in the 20-22 mpg range.

As for me, the only other cars I'd consider for DD would be a 5-speed Camry (Had two, I liked them... 25-30 mpg no matter how they were driven) or an HPP Crown Vic/GMQ. My '95 Marquis averaged 18-20 MPG and to me that's acceptable.

But, Goldmember goes all 4 seasons...

lol...im building it for my gpa with his money or it would be laying body with 20's and titanium drag blocks out back lol.....We still might bag it, 5 inches of tire to fender gap will NOT fly
and does anyone know how jetta's fair in the gas mileage area?

My mother has a Jetta and it gets really good gas mileage! Sorry I do not know exact #'s, it is just very good though! Her's in an 07.

I'm pretty sure I've heard of Jettas gettin good gas mileage... but then again, any smaller vehicle will get better gas mileage than what you're used to.

My friend's got a Del Sol and even though its one of the ugliest cars ever created, it gets pretty good gas mileage and he says its pretty fun to drive too. I can't give any real numbers, but he likes it even though we all make fun of him for it.

I carpool with my GF in her '03 Civic EX stick shift. ~35mpg, zero problems, little maintenance. It rules.

The wife and I are looking into mini coops. Those get 32-35 mpg. It's a BMW owned company so regular scheduled maintenance is free. I think its for 3 yrs.
