gt 40 heads

i have an opportunity to buy some gt40 heads. non p. i want to put them on my 95gt. i already have a t-moss ported cobra upper/lower intake. i want to run just a mild cam ( E-cam, comp, or trick flow) how much work should i have done to these heads? i dont plan on changing anythiong on the lower end of things like pistons or crank. just a basic HC swap. and i also will be putting on bassani equal length headers.

Depends on what you are looking for.

At the very least, I would take them to a machine shop and see how the valve seals are and install a set of springs that can support a cam. The Trick Flow valve spring upgrade for stock Ford cast iron heads is the best deal, hands down.

A few people have made 300rwhp w/ the cobra/explorer h/i and a decent cam but port work is a must. Also you would need a 5 spd to get the max hp out of the engine, good custom tune, nice weather, etc..... There is a reason why only a handful of people have made that number when thousands have a similar setup.

Id say 280-285rwhp is what u could expect w/ some decent porting.

ported cobra intake

355 gears
and plan on a good cam and a custom tune afterwards.
Maybe 24lb injectors? And adustable fpr?

You would def want to go 24lb and get a tune to max out your HP

Ok for sure. How much can the stock lower end hold up to?
I don't really plan on racing it. It's my weekend warrior. Buy I like to take it on longer drives. It might see the drag strip 2 times a year if that.

I've heard the stock lower end holding up to close to 500hp...correct me if Im wrong though.

Mine were milled as far as they could go pretty much, 331, NOT ported (former factory stock car), made 340/370 (100 octane), 35* timing.

I'd think you could get close to 300hp

How did that factory stock car run? Those cars are crazy going high 10's low 11's on pretty much a 3200lb cobra, stock style suspension!

Yes they are! I couldn't do it, too many restrictions. The former owner ran an 11.8 with a proshifted trans, 306, unported gt40 heads. This was years ago, nowadays they are much faster. The car now has more cubes, faceplated trans, coilovers and tubular K member, bunch of goodies that FS doesn't allow.
