The thought being 1. Everyone thinks 5.0 with 215HP from the factory. Even with mods, 300 - 350HP? 2. No one is expecting a 351 bored 0.40 over and a stroker kit. Based on my calculations it comes out to about 395 CI @ 9 or 10:1 comp ratio. Haven’t even spec’d out the cam yet. Oh the fun to be had all while looking like a stock 5.0.

Why not go straight to a 408- 427 ?

Hey all, sorry for the long silence. I finally got the car back to its other home and I had some time to look into it. It would appear the engine was hydro-locked. After some slow and careful diagnosis, I was able to get it to rotate. While most everything was apart I rebuilt the fuel injectors, put it all back together and was able to successfully get it to start and run. However, it sounds like a cement truck with a barrel full of cinder blocks. I haven’t had time to tear into it deeper so I cannot assess what the damage is. Once I do I’ll let y’all know.

Sorry for the long delay, been busy going back and forth between two places.
Well, the good news is, I know what is wrong with the 302. The bad news is, I know what's wrong with the 302. :( In terms of space travel, I have had what would be described as an "Unscheduled Rapid Disassembly" of piston #3. I will try to get a picture or two posted here for every ones enjoyment. I had a mechanic friend of mine come by with a scope to look in through the spark plug opening and that's when we found the damage. There are a couple good size nicks on the cylinder wall which "maybe" could be machined or at worst I would have to have it sleeved. At this point, I think it's time to drop in the 351.

I know I started this thread asking about intakes and what every ones thoughts were on them. Now I have other questions about other parts I still need to acquire and was hoping folks here could either share their thoughts/experiences or point me in the right direction to other posts that they are aware of that may answer my questions. I have a pretty good idea of what can and cannot be swapped between the 302 & 351 and am working on putting together my list of what I still need.

What I am wondering about are these things.. to start with:
1. Keep the Holley Terminator or go with the Holley Sniper? I have one of each already so it comes down to this...
a. I have a square bore 4 bbl 351 intake that the Sniper can go on to. (it's an Edelbrock Performer I think, dual plane)
b. The Sniper setup takes up a lot less real estate
i. Requires a different throttle cable which I already have and I probably lose having cruise control.
ii. Will need to figure out the wiring (i.e. how much is the same/reusable from the Terminator, how much is new for the Sniper).
c. If I keep the Terminator I need a new intake that has injector bosses (pre-machined or I'll have to get them machined).
d. I will need additional parts to connect the throttle body like an, intake elbow and possibly a spacer to clear the valve covers.
e. Will need to reprogram the Terminator to the new engine, or find a tuner nearby and have it towed there.
f. All the wiring is already done for the Terminator.
2. What distributor? I am guessing that the same one works for either fuel delivery setup Term or Sniper.
3. Heads? I had AFR 185 Renegade's (#1422) 58cc heads, but one I don't think will be salvageable. Found a new set of AFR 190 Enforcer 64cc heads for just under $1500. To replace the 185's is almost $2400. Seems like a no brainer, but...
4. Cam shaft? No clue. I want streetability/driveability but I also want power.
5. Roller or Hydraulic flat tappet? Block is a 1974, so it's a non-roller.
a. Roller = new dizzy gear and special lifters
b. Flat tappet = nothing special

If anyone is interested or knows someone who is interested in a tubular GT40 upper and lower intake for a 302 let me know, I don't think I'll be re-using the one I have.

1. Terminator > Sniper

Periodt.

7 days a week, 365 days a year

The Sniper may be attractive due to it's square bore design but go read on the Holley forum. Those things are terrible. They're plagued with issues and, although Holley EFI has it's quirks, Sniper seems to be the Quirkmaster.

1a. You can absolutely set that intake up for port injection or get a Victor Sr that has the injector bungs installed already.

1b. See above

1c. See 1a.

1d. Talk to @RAU03MACH, he is doing a similar install

1e. We can recommend remote sources to get it going and you can drive it to the dyno.

1f. This is a win.

2. Ditch the distributor and run a cam sensor with LS coils. Yes, LS coils.

3. 302 parts make 302 power, but with more torque. Your baseline needs to be AFR205's.

4. Contact Ed Curtis

5. See #4

6. COYOTE SWAP IT

I went through all of this headache with a 410w before I threw it away [for a $100 profit] and Coyote swapped my '95 to find an even newer set of headaches BUT monumental highs and LOTS of fun.

As promised here are few photos of my handy work. I also found a place that says they can repair the heads for half the price of new ones. So for now I’m going that route, just to get her back on the road.
