Hard to Start...

I've been an GM/LS1 guy since 1998, but I recently moved over to the Ford side to try something different and I tell you what, I don't think I'm going back to GM anytime soon. Anyway, I just picked a 1994 Cobra with a 331 stroker motor. It has 85K original miles on it. I absolutely love it. My only complaint is that sometimes, the car acts like it doesn't want to start. In the morning, before I go to work, it'll fire up just fine. Other times, it seems like it takes a few times for it to fire. Has anyone experienced this? Any help or tips would be great. Thanks!

Thanks for tips guys. I popped the hood to dismantle the intake tube to get to the TB, but the first thing I noticed is a warning label that says NOT to clean the TB because it is coated with some special blah blah blah...what's ya'lls take on this?

you really should try to avoid cleaning it because it basically keeps contiminents from staying between the body and the throttle plate. HOWEVER.... if your not completely stupid when it comes to cars and mechanics, you should be able to be careful.

Try backing your timing off a couple degrees, that can sometimes cause hard start.

Alternatively, a heat shield on the starter can usually help too. One of my cars had terrible hot-start problems when the starter solenoid got heat soaked - a very thorough heat wrap helped tremendously.

X2, especially if the car has Longtube headers... nice and toasty
