I assume yours is manual? Mine does the same. What slykin said makes sense for mine, my lower boot is in poor condition. I don't think there's anything wrong though.

mine use to be the same, seemes like I noticed it more after the x-pipe and side exhaust I put on. It was bad enough on mine that after long trips you could feel the consol radiating heat. I replaced the shifter gasket and then when I replaced the carpet I installed 2 layers of heat sheilding material(thermal block by second skin) and its been cool sailing since.

I have the same issue. Doesn't bother me though and its not all hot every time I drive it. My GT did the same thing. Its weird but don't have the will do anything about it lol.

It's just a trade off of a cheap performance car. If you want a hot driveline go ride around in a viper all day. You will be able to cook eggs off of the center console and footwell.

If your shifter is heating up so that it's hot to the touch I would look at the transmission. When was the last time you had a flush or replaced the filter? Do you have a good cooler in place? Do you have a trans oil temp gauge hooked up? Sounds like a overheating issue to me, but more info should be posted.
