My heater core finally went out one me. Funny enough this happened almost 2 yrs ago but since I was living in the desert of phoenix I ended up bypassing it and going with out. Thing have changed and I find myself back in the midwest now again wanting heat. Money is tight but I have time so I started taking things out yesterday, took my time and finally got the dash out before dinner. I failed to notice that I needed to evacuate the ac system and disconnect it so now I need to find out what to do. I bought the tools but what should I do about evacuating the gas?

I am going to be pulling the dash mach460 cable while it is out if anyone wants to keep a stock looking stang hit me up.

you can bring it somewhere and the can properly evacuate the system for you, or you can take the cap off the upper port and push down and let it out yourself. use something so your hand isnt directly over it obviously. when i did mine there was barely and refrigerant in there to begin with so there wasnt much pressure. and as you could imagine theres a hefty fine for letting it out into the atmosphere. the choice is yours

incase you dont know the with the disconnect tool when you put it on, push first then pull it out

without visually seeing it im not to sure. should be the same as the bottom. push in and then pull out.

im sure someone will eventually chime in with a more useful answer.

im the same way, when i get stuck on something it gets me so frustrated. best thing to do is take a break, maybe do some research and then try it again.

took the dog for a long walk and then I was able to work the last one off. Now for some reason with the 3 bolts inside, and the one outside there is still something really solid holding it in place. Feels like another bolt but I don't see it....

linky link? :)

I have the 3 bolts on the inside out, the one on the outside firewall and it still feels like there is something holding it in place near the center/drivers side of the box.

the nut behind the canister gave me some troubles as I though it meant the one holding the canister. I found the 2nd one later.

The instructions I was using showed to pull the entire core out which is what I was trying to do. I went out and looked and I should be able to get it away enough to slap it in now but wanted to wait for better light in the morning. You shouel be able to hear me doing a happy dance if I can get it in and am on the return part of putting this project back together but I will leave an update. Thanks for the help.

the sound damping that in on the firewall behind the core had prettywell bonded to the core between the heat and the compression. This was strong enough to hold it on there and make me think there was another bolt. In my anger I started to pull a little harder and got it to seperate and I am now putting it back together.
