Yup, I heard a "clunk" sound then a "BAM" and next thing you know my car was laying on the ground.. Scary feeling. Everyone told me I was lucky no to be on the freeway when this happened. Next Monday it will be taken to the shop for 2 new balljoints, new a/c line, and new throwout bearing

Yeah I got very lucky I didnt break or bend anything else. Luckily didn't damage the control arm as well.. did bend the hub shield up a little but managed to fix that.

@Onyx - As far as I know they were factory ball joints. I knew they were worn but I had no idea they would snap like that.
@5.0kid - Holy shit dude I couldn't even imagine the thoughts that went through your head when that happen!
@945.0 - Yeah I wont, I'm having it taken to a Mustang shop on Monday to have them both replaced as well as my a/c line and my TOB

It seems like I've been hearing about a lot of ball joints breaking on sn95s lately... it must be a conspiracy.

Wow this happened to me yesterday, i was coming from my local mustang club meet and i kept hearing clunks over bumps and turns, moments later i just heard a loud pop and my car was on the ground, i was doing 40 , passanger side came off the balljoint and almost ate a curb with it, thankfully it was dark and there was no traffic, today i installed a new balljoint, its an Autozone cheap replacement for now cuz i need the car for tomorrow but im going to install better ones , but the duralast balljoint i got looks pretty sturdy so i might just leave it there , oh and my old one didnt brake , the cotterpin apparently broke and it allowed to nut to back off slowly with time, will until yesterday , was about 5 minutes from the freeway so i got lucky.

Hey guys is a castle nut better than the ones that come with just a nut with the pressure plastic ring on top ? Cuz my old one was castle nut and the one i got from autozone is not, its just a pressure nut, just want to know if this is as secure as a castle nut type one, and how much should i tighten it ? Just thinking of going to my friends shop and letting the airgun do the work cuz i managed to get it on by hand with rachet but it prolly would not be as tight as it needs to be until i use a air gun on it.

Glad you're alright! This happened to me a few years back on my old '95 GT. I was pulling into my driveway, heard a loud thud, and the car just fell on its face. Luckily I was barely moving, but what a pain in the ass it was to get it on the flatbed! AAA ruined my fender in the process, then refused to pay for the damages because I didn't notice the damage on the car at 2am when they came with the flatbed. FML!

Yeah mine was towed into a flatbed also, i noticed the tire started destroying the inside of the fender when the guy was pushing it down , i told him to stop and he asked me if i had some oil, spread that under the tire and it slid right down without any dmg, left the car on a jackstand for the night then next day came the new balljoint, in a matter of 2 days this has costed me close to 300 dollars, 200 for just the tow truck.

^^ That or when you turn the wheel and your tires creak. Basically sounds like metal grinding on top of eachother.
