ok now that ive identified that my car has pi intake , heads and aftermarket cams, im at a delima here , im not sure if the car has had a complete pi motor swap or someone did a pi swap to a nonpi motor.... what are the best ways to figure this out? the car DOES not have coil on plugs which is a pi motor addition but thats all i got to work with honestly .... any ideas?

If it's a mid '01-04 motor the pulleys would be alittle different. As far as the date code on the heads, they could just be from an 03.

ReviaxTorres, paging ReviaxTorres.

Wouldn't the way the coil pack's are mounted to the front cover give it away, since you'd have to rig a mount for the pack's on the 99-up cover?

Look at the belt routing sticker on the under side of the hood and then look at the actual belt routing. See if it matches up. The alternator is also mounted different but I'm not totally sure if it changed in 99 or if it changed with the pulleys in mid-'01..It could have stayed the same up till mid-01..?!

see if you can locate any id numbers on the block. there should be something on there. also look at any fasteners or bolts that would have needed to be taken off for block removal. if they dont seem to have ever been touched by a wrench, chance are you have heads and not a complete motor.

also try and do a carfax, if some owner before you grenaded the original motor, chances are it got replaced with a later model(i.e. PI) motor. just throwin those out there, might work.

1) the belt routing would be different. 96-00 had a different set up compared to the 01-04. 01-04 had an extra idler pulley.

if you follow the belt counter clockwise, there should only be:
alternator
idler
tensioner
a/c
water pump
crank
power steering

if there is an extra pulley somewhere, you have the PI motor

2) alternator. should have 1 wire and 2 harness that plug into it, tho the wire is bolted on. the PI cars only had 1 wire (also bolted on), and 1 harness.

3) if you really want to know, you can dig into the block. the pistons will be different, trying to find the link to see what the main differences are but i cant find it. ill look into it when i get home.

off the top of my head thats all i can think of.
