WHat cam is in the motor? You gotta know whether its steel, billet steel, or cast iron. What kind of gear is on the dizzy?

+1 The material the cam is made of dictates what type of distributor gear you should use.

A friend of mine chewed up a few distributor gears with his distributor until switching to a composite gear from Comp I think, after which he had no problems.

I thought about that after I posted too... you can pay a few extra bucks for the "polymer" dizzy gear from them and it is compatable with ANY and ALL cams.

I'm sure you can find it. Do a little research.

I know that a new MSD distributor comes with a break-in lube. The instructions are pretty clear that the lube ifs vital to makinh the gear survive the break-in period.
