Hey i'm posting this for my neighbor. He also owns a stang, a 98GT. The previous owner disconnected a hose that when reconnected causes the car to stall. It is a vacuum line from some sort of check or reg to the manifold ...

Trun the engine on get some break cleaner and spray around that erea and listen to the change in the RPM

can we get a better picture of that connector? what are the color of wires going into it? If you can get me the color wires, I may be able to look up the connector in my ford book and we can start to piece together what that thing is...

thats the purge flow sensor. That's an open vacuum leak. Sounds to me like you have mucho vacuum problems. IAC may be bad and stuck shut and not allowing any air so it won't idle.
