So I just installed some new ported pi heads on my on my engine and set the timing on it. Well i spun the motor over fine after installing the chains and tensioners and went to lock the tensioners one more click into place with a pry bar and ended up breaking the guide. So i spun the motor back to TDC to take the tension off the chain and took the tensioner off and when that happened the chain fell loose on both sides. I didnt hear the chain skip any teeth when that happened so im guessing the chain is still in the correct position. So here's my question, is it possible to install the timing a tooth off and it still spin over fine or will it just lock itself up? I have a set of comp270's and tolerances are extremely tight. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Did you spin the motor in reverse when u said u spun it back to tdc? If so that's not good and what do u mean lock the tensioners one more click?

well i spun the motor over when the timing chains and tensioners were installed so it was in perfect time but i didnt spin it in reverse, and the one more click is referring to on the tensioner itself it has a deal that you can put tension on the chains without oil pressure to prevent it from jumping time on first start up. the tensioners are prior to 01 cast irons.

well i figured out that if its a tooth off it will indeed lock itself up. i tried just reinstalling the broken guide and i guess it did jump a tooth so i guess its take the cam out and try again with a new guide. haha
