HELP ME WITH MY TIMING!

Apparently there is STILL a vacuum leak. I changed all the vacuum lines. What else could be causing the leak? :dunno:

They said that when they put pressure on the tank there is a leak. Other than the vac. lines, what could be leaking?

sounds like your gas cap needs replacing the rubber seal may be leaking. we don't have these smog test in SC yet but thats what it sounds like what there talking about.

Have you tried spraying carb cleaner along the vac lines w/ the engine running, that may help you to find any leaks

I asked that, and they said that wasn't a possibility because of how they set up the test. Any other ideas?

I still can't believe that it could be my lines, since I just replaced them. I did the lines from the intake to the purge control solenoid, from the solenoid to the carbon canister, the canister to the hard line, hard line to the plastic/rubber-like line. I think that's all there are. I didn't try to drop the tank to look at the last line, but the only other line in the back was in perfect condition. Is it hard to drop the tank? Is there another rubber line to the tank other than the ones that I have described? Are there any other possibilities?

you may have a vac line w/ a crack in it that might not be able to see, I had the same problem with one of the hard vacuum lines and the boot could be dry rotted. Also check on the drivers side by the braake booster, there should be a plastic tee (4 or 5 lines) make sure that is not cracked and all of the connections are tight

Yes, they said that they put pressure on the tank, and test for it at the intake. If any is mysteriously missing they fail you. They told me that it was most likely my EVAP vacuum lines, and that they would have to replace them for... get ready for this... 200 dollars. :tickedoff: So I replaced all the rubber hoses and brought it back, and though it does pass the visual test, they say that a hole as big as half a hair could be the culprit. I've looked at all the lines, is there anything tank related other than the cap that could be letting off the pressure? Gaskets for the fuel pump etc.? This whole thing is really starting to tick me off.

there is a piece between the tank and where you pump the gas in but you have to drop the tank to replace it and I really don't think this is the problem. you do have a line that goes from the tank to the carbon canister hidden behind the passenger fender check on the fender there should be a hose that comes out of the fender and goes under the car back toward the tank it may be cracked or broken also if its good the valve that opens to allow the gas fumes to be sucked into the intake may be stuck open. I'm not sure just where it is but a vacuum diagram may help your search look on the hood for it or online hear. someone may have them posted.

if you have alot of miles on it , you might want to put a new balancer on it , when they get old the outside ring slips and then when you set your timing its actually way off probably ....

I don't think the timing is a problem at this point. More focussed on my vacuum leak where ever that might be. Thank you for your advice though, it is much appreciated.
